Isn't it weird that Leo STILL hasn't been localized yet?

Why the heck would Kimba sell that well here in America if it were licensed, today?

Not to sound like my old negative self or anything, but even with that legacy that it has, it isn't that popular anymore. It's a sad reality that I kinda didn't mention in my first post.

The Astro Boy manga, even though they were licensed around the same time as the 2003 dub, still didn't sell very well. Actually a lot of manga back then didn't, which is was the only reason why the AB manga topped charts for a little while. But had more manga been released back then, and been more popular, then there's no way AB would have stood a chance.

Notice that I said "best Tezuka seller." If you want to play the card of Tezuka's titles not being that well known in the US, then yeah you're right, and all of Tezuka's manga works don't sell that well there. But Kimba is the second most well known name of his works after Astro Boy, and since a big factor of Tezuka manga sales in the US comes from Tezuka's name alone, then one of his most cherished series would help even more.

I mentioned Osamu Tezuka to a friend of mine, who loves anime and some manga, and he asked if said Osama.

Believe me, not that many people in America know who Tezuka was.

I know.

I'm talking about people who buy Tezuka manga. They get them because of Tezuka's name, or that it's old school. In both case, Kimba would do well in that niche.

And if I may add... Kimba sales would even get an extra boost from parents buying books for their children. Much better than something like Princess Knight in that regard.

And when i had to do a power point presentation for school i wanted to do it about tezuka for some reason and i finaly found out about Tezuka's adult works and other's like Kimba Princesss knight Dorroro Black Jack etc.
And ever since i try to get every Tezuka Manga with his name on it and i know i'm going to like regardless what the title is.

And i alreday own every english/australian DVD release from Tezuka series wich isn't much of course but i'm slowly working my way though buying the Japanese sets and Italian/spanish/german releases and maybe French Manga soon
of course the language barrier doesn't help much.

Sorry to be so late to this thread, but to answer the question about cuts in the original Kimba series... They really treated the show with respect. Nearly all the cuts were scenes of "excessive" violence they felt they had to tone down.

Other cuts were:
- One minute from the first episode, for time considerations. That minute only showed scenic images.
- A joke that wouldn't make sense because the American version did not use the same opening sequence as the Japanese version.
- And a song in a later episode. Maybe this was cut because the animation that goes with it is very surreal and possibly a bit scary; maybe it was cut because the dubbers didn't have any confidence in their ability to sing. (They talked through some songs in other episodes, and left one song untranslated.)

Most of the cuts can be found either on the bonus disc on the (licensed) "Ultra Edition" box set of the sixties dub, or via links in the episode guide on my site (http://www.kimba.us).

[It's the 90s dub of Kimba that shows up on questionable DVDs in questionable quality. That version has a lot deleted from every episode, because they had to make room for more commercials, but I have not cataloged all of those cuts.]
