Are you seeing the plain avatar at the left side of the dA screen ?

Pass the mouse over it and you'll notice a option, upload the desired avatar and it'll work.

If you want a more personal one, then give me the image and I can edit to fit the dA default size.

Do not have a computer?
If you pass the mouse you'll see a change in the icon, then click in the pencil which appears.

I use a tablet, too.
Just touch the icon where your avatar should be and hold down on it for a second. A little pencil should appear in the corner, click on that and you should be able to change your avatar.
