Like, I'm a nerd, just not when it comes to school. I wasn't insulting anyone here. Nerds get all the attention. Plus, I felt like people here at the forum knew more than me about computers, which is cool. I'm always wanting to know more about computers. By the way, I still can't update my profile.

You miss half the definition. Nerds are also socially awkwards, often a consequence of their specialization. The term is often used to stress on this meaning. In my opinion, people using it this way are people who can't see the world from any other view point than theirs :p Therefore, when someone is using such a word on me, I always take it as a compliment whatever the implicit meaning: either the person meant it well and all is good, or the person meant it the bad way and I have some pride to be badly considered by people I consider badly too, understand anything? :D

Ahem... Anyway, to go back on topic...
I have managed to download a... erm... free demo *cough* of McAfee's 2007 security suite  I am installing it on a disposable Windows XP virtual machine (I actually consider this thing as a virus as I can't be sure to control the uninstallation process). As soon as it's done, I will try to access this forum with every "security" feature activated to see if I can reproduce your problem. I will keep you updated if I find something.

Most likely someone removed your permission to access your profile in the board configuration. mod/admin should make sure all your permissions are set correctly. I doubt it is the firewall, as if you can login to post, that seems to eliminate your cookies as being a problem.

I am fairly sure that the server is refusing the access, however, I am not sure why. The data sent to the server might be unsuitably modified by the firewall, but I have no idea how. I have tried to manipulate the cookie to see if I could get a similar result, but I found out that any tampering with it resulted in a log out, not an access forbidden.
I have also tried to install the "offending" security center, but I couldn't have a result even remotely similar to the problem described. The only thing I got was a significant slowdown, but no real difficulty to access anything. Now I may suspect Yahoo Browser, but I couldn't get my hands on an installer. I'm kind of stuck here, I would need physical access to the network, but this of course is impossible.

I do not know if moderators or anyone for that matter have the ability to limit such a thing. We do ban certain members whose 1st threads are spam, but I just checked the moderator tools page & there is nothing that could limit a member's ability to access that. :D

 You didn't had to do all that. You said free demo, I don't know what I have but I guess the new version. The M symble at the bottom right of the screen is a grey square with a red M. My old one was a red square with a white M. Sorry, I'm talking primitive here because I don't know what version I have.

I kinda believe you, but I think it's just the Admin dude.

I did it because I wanted to, you didn't force me to do anything ;)

This description is sufficient for me to know I have downloaded the correct version. Now I'm sure I'm really stuck. I'm afraid I can't do more to find the root of the problem :(

Well, you know what? Where the heck is Mark? Why am I forbidden to update my profile? It isn't just my laptop! I can't update it from my dad's computer too. Next place will have to be my brothers.

Did you try to e-mail him?

"stoogefreaky" wrote:Why am I forbidden to update my profile?

I know it had been done before by other moderators, but I've checked your options and I couldn't find any sign of a "profile access" option either. Everything is your account seems normal.

In the meantime, if you want to change your avatar, signature or personal information, ask a moderator (not DrFrag since he's busy these days, and Mark doesn't come often, but anybody else could do the changes for you).

Do you share the Internet connection with your dad?

You could always register and get a new account. I've never heard of a similar problem before, so if on both accounts you have the same problem, then chances are that it has something to do with your software, computers or network settings.

Note: we do not encourage members to use multiple accounts (especially because most of the time, people do with bad intentions), but in this case I thought maybe it could shed some light. :)

What do you mean new account? I think I have my own account. I don't want him reading my email.

So, modersators can go into my account and change my profile? Then, can they read our PM's!!???
