Anytime a 'suicide machine' is mentioned I am reminded of the voluntary death process of Soylent Green.

Heston was not acting when he wept, as Edward G. Robinson was indeed dying.

As I recall, when Bender used the suicide machine, he had a string on his coin, & retrieved it, though the intend was to end it all.

Robots can't die in a human suicide machine, Bender just liked to cheat people.
