I just noticed that over @ ezyDVD.com.au they are selling Kimda on DVD for $5 for the first two volumes. To be honest I did not even realise this wonderful series was even on DVD. Man I still remember watching this as a kid.

Now I want to buy them for the price, but I know what I am like.. I will get these two and then not having the rest of the set will haunt me into frustration.

Does anyone know how much of this series was actually released on DVD here in Australia?

Whos the king of animals in africa?
whos the one who brought the jungle fame?
Whos the king of doing good and doing right?
Kimba the white lion is his name!

:D
three and a half years.. for what?

Anyway it was released in the US and you can get for AU$135 abouts from Cartoon Gallery, so should be able to import from another place cheaper

I just picked up a couple of animation cells from the original Kimba. I never got to see the show, so I partly bought them for the Tezuka memorobilia and partly to maybe frame and give to my wife for her birthday (she loved the show).

It's really amazing to see a genuine cell (with original sketch). You can see how they drew it and put it all together. B)

Some guy on ebay called luvasianladies. I think he lives in the US but ships stuff from Japan.

http://search.ebay.com.au/search/search.dl...14&BasicSearch=

The stuff on there is ranging from 1 cent to US$61 at the moment. I got mine for US$18. I've seen some go for over a hundred dollars, so just keep an eye on them and be prepared to bid in the final minute!

This is what I won:

The colour is incredibly crisp. What they do is draw very precice lines at the edge of some of the colour (from the back), then fill in the coloured areas with paint. Each subsequent colour can overlap previously painted areas because it's a transparency and they're colouring from the back. It's really interesting to look at close up. :) They're about A3 size and have special alignment holes along the edge. They also come with the original sketch for that frame. Very nice.
Astroboy cels seem to be harder to come by.

:P I know that there are quite a few Black Jack fans here and just fans of the Tezuka Art so I won this cel of Black Jack today on Ebay...I think its a great pose of Black Jack. I cannot place the monk charecter but its been a while since I have seen the series ;) But I have also bought a cigarette lighter, silver one, and a flash strap for my mobile......just to annoy the Anti-astro people around my place ;) :wahah: :P ;) :wahah: BTW DrFrag, love your cell. The same seller has a similar piece for sale again now if there is anyone after a great piece of art

By the looks of Ham Egg, I would say this is not from the series, but from the movie that we were discussing a few months ago.

That's a great cel, Loüßëãr. He was selling a similar one a few weeks ago and there was about a day to go with the highest bid still at 1 cent. I was so tempted to buy it, but when I checked back it was up to US$22. You got an excellent deal on yours!

well, this topic is about kimba and such..so I'll put this here.
okay, I just bought a volume 1 of Leo the Lion from Wal-Mart for like $8..and I basically got what I paid for. It is 2-Discs with 4 episodes on the first disc and 3 episodes on the second disc. When I brought it home I read the back, it says:
"Created by legendary Japanese animator of 'Astro Boy' Osamu Tuzuka, LEO THE LION makes its DVD premiere. In this sequel series to 'Kimba the White Lion,' Leo guides his family along the path of respecting and helping all other creatures in the jungle.
This award winning series teaches children morals and to value the feelings of others. It will also fulfill the anime crowd as well as anyone who grew up with the original television broadcast."

On the bottom it says it plays on all DVDs worldwide..and I don't think thats a good sign. It also says Dolby Digital Sound AC-3 Stereo..I have no idea what AC-3 is. Did you notice they spelled 'Tezuka' wrong? hmm..

I put in the first disc and went to the static menus and the song had a muffled sound to it..like it was old. I played the episode and the crappy sound stayed throughout the whole disc. It even got worse at parts and it was hard to make out what the characters were saying. I tried it on my PS2 aswell and the sound was still terrible.

The artwork on the cover is'nt even Tezuka art..and the company that did this is called, Palm Beach Entertainment. I only spent $8 so I got what I paid for..its not even watchable though, because of the sound quality. Im guessing they could'nt make something old sound better?
Or did they even try? *cough* well Im down ranting..anyone have something to contribute?

That is probably the series I rented a whila ago. The color and sound were both saturated. Even with the color level set to zero, it was still toom much. There was no helping the sound, though. I think I watched all available disks, but am not certain. It was intersting to see the white lion as an adult, with cubs of his own, though. The theme song was pitiful!
