Valerie is billed as "the most advanced android in the world". When I saw this page, I recalled reading that a 'real' Astroboy-like robot was still 15-20 years away. Maybe it will be a bit sooner.

Thank you, it's interesting. I had never heard of her. I couldn't find how she'd get her energy. She would need quite a lot of AA batteries... :huh: According to the main page, she'd cost somewhere around $45,000 to $75,000.

I suggest a little boy/girl instead! But seriously, she looks a little bit deathly to me...

Im sure they could make a weird looking Astro I wouldent mind having one but I mean he would have no powers and he wouldent be able to fly

I am gonna call bulls*** on this one. Seems amazingly suspicious to me.

So far the closest I have found online to a humanoid robot is Repliee q2. The movies down the bottom will be of high interest. Wish someone would sub them so us non-Japanees-speeking peoples could understand it a little better.

The "sample" voice is a common female synth voice. I use the same voice for Windows sounds on my computer.

As for the "artifical intelligence"...

• Rote memory: See "monkey see - monkey do"
• Monkey see - monkey do (visual imitation) : Given a proper visual recognition mecanism, it should be a piece of cake. Did I mention that visual recognition is an intense research study?
• Logical inference: Trivial. Just use a proper knowledge database. They have one, of course... ^_^
• Fuzzy logic: Same as above.
• Neural networks: Yeah, this one is easy: we all have one and we think. So putting it in a machine will do it I just wonder how it will integrate properly with all the stuffs above

Funny as all of the points are trivial, if we neglect the insignificant "details" of implementation

I would imagine her being restricted to activity inside a house is because most of her computer hardware is externally located and linked to her body via broadband. This would greatly reduce the weight and power consumption of the android.

Anybody old enough to rember fembots? No, not the ones on Austin Powers' films. In a related issue, after I read the first 2 paragraghs (in the page mentioned) containing this term, I recall a discussion about why the English version of the 2003 made Atlas a robot from the start. Apparently there is a precedent for kids mutilating themselves in hopes of becoming cyborgs. I wonder if any Japanese children tried this?
