If you can, please begin to mobilize your neighbours to put together goods and materials for relief agencies. This promises to be the worst Hurricane in recorded American history. Anyone who can help or donate is needed. Don't wait for official services to do something.

And prayers for our forum members in the sights of Katrina. Don't be a hero, get out while you still can and God bless you all.

Will anyone help me organize something for anime fans to give donations for Katrina victims? I want to put something together, is anyone interested? My wife and I have started organizing our anime fan site "Moms Basement" on MSN. Ideas welcome.

I saw the Wikipedia article this morning :o

I was listening to the radio today, and a caller asked a very interesting Question. The United States is the first country to offer assistance to other countries during a disaster. But where are these countries now that we need help? It's about time that we get help from the other countries of the world.

No offence, but can you give me an example?

I've just read an article that said that the US government was studying help offers from other countries, about a dozen of them. They didn't want to release names in case they forgot to name some of them (at least that's what the spokesman said, because he didn't have the list with him), but he added that offers continued to pour in. I'd give the link but it's in French.

It's very hard to coordinate those kinds of things. I would think in the short term, it would be easier for the Americans to get help from their fellow citizens and the closest areas around, and as the needs become clearer, then I guess they'd be able to tell other governments what they need.

I remember that Americans came here to help restore the electrical network in 1998 when it was damaged by an icestorm (it was not anywhere near as bad as what is happening right now in the US, but in winter, you badly need heating! ;) , and I remember Canada did the same in France when they had their own disaster a few years later. I'm sure Canada is willing to help... or else I'll be very disappointed in my government!

Oh my gosh, did anyone see today's paper? I saw pics of Katrina's aftermath! :o
It was horrible...tons of buildings were wreaked, and 80% of New Orleans was underwater.
Glad to know, that the Superdome, made it and saved tons of ppl while the hurricane was storming it's way through Louisiana. B)
Part of the roof blasted off, but I'm glad those ppl in there were safe. :)
Although, around 70 ppl died and/or drowned in the waters covering part of the city. :(
Gas prices went up to $3, and over millions of dollars was for the damages...
I feel bad for those ppl..
We've all got a lot of work to do to help put those ppl. (Compare this to the tsunami the happened in Asia) ;)
I shall wish all of us luck. B)

Thank you, you're too kind.

But where are these countries now

Britain and Canada are already sending what they can. I'm sorry but most of Europe couldn't help anyone with a paper clip. (points at France and Germany who helped themselves to Saddam's Oil in the "Food for Oil" scandal)
