The Manoi will be about $1,200 USD and can be programmed to do stuff. So far it can kick a ball, walk naturally, and do various poses. Still not much information, but more will be available soon. I was designed to compete with other bipedal robots so it should have extensive programming tools. Just wish it had the ability to grasp things in it's hands (or had hands for that matter...). Ah well, who knows what a little modification and hacking can do for it? I can't wait to find out.

Heh, yeah, when compared to Astro this one's not very impressive at all, but close to the top of my list of planned mods is adding a flame thrower sorta like this robosapien mod:

If I were to try making an astroboy out of it there are only a few things I could do aside from replacing the shell to look like him... Light up eyes, boots that squeak when they make contact, laser finger, replica chest panel w/ flashing lights, and possibly rear-mounted bb-gun (providing the miniture battery powered bb guns are available in a small enough model and the new shell was made the right size and shape to fit them without losing functionality or aesthetics). It would be very tough to do without losing it's centre of gravity.

Honestly I'd rather mod it to look like a servbot tho. It'd be easier and I could make the manoi into an almost perfect scale model. The only thing missing would be the strength and durability.

I agree. Well, perhaps if he was at least more cute than that, I could forgive him for missing a few ultrapowers!

I wonder if that will be as good as Qrio...so far that is the most advance robot i've seen..it would be neat if they did give a custom look to the robots...sort of like an astro-boy replica skin

Qrio is far more advanced. I agree that Qrio is the most advanced robot I've heard of. The new videos on the Qrio site are incredible. Asimo is probably 2nd best, since he(it?) has comparable abilities, tho not nearly as polished. I'm hopefull that when the market is right (IE when a few more companies start releasing affordable crappier humanoid robots to compete with Robosapien) Sony will release Qrio at a competitive price to dominate the market.

The only thing Manoi and Chroino have on Qrio's design is the ability to walk smoothly without having constantly bent knees.

Manoi is almost identical in design to Chroino, and both look like they use parts from Kondo's KHR-1. I'm assuming that unless you design your own software, you'll probably need to use the program that comes with KHR-1. It allows you to record and playback sequences of movements, which you will probably be able to trigger with a remote joypad (like what you see the guys doing at the robo-one fighting competitions). I'm also guessing that anything beyond the demo movements you see on the videos (ie interactiveness, voice recognition, dynamic balance, etc) would have to be hacked into the hardware and custom programmed in on a PC after purchase.

That four legged robot is definately amazing. I'm guessing the use of it would to help the military carry equipment around. The robot technology is definately advancing fast i'm assuming these are only the first stages to get near perfect human movement design and then will come the long overhaul work on A.I. which will probably take years to advance (Robots Talking with Humans))
