Lada and Makimura

Postby mr skunk » 19 years ago

Does anyone here know the story of Lada and Makimura? I think that is the most beautiful and romantic story out of all the Phoenix books (well, up until the fried chicken legs part.... ) I'm thinking of drawing a picture of the two of them together. If I do, would you guys like me to post it on the forum?

Unless it is in vol. 1-6, no. I've only read the english versions. What story is this?

It was in the book entitled "Yamato/Space." It was in the second story, "Space." It told the story of Makimura and how he was sent on a mission to a foriegn planet. He was violent and hurtful to the half bird half human creatures who lived there. One of the creatures sent his little sister to take care of him, and he ends up falling in love with her beautiful personality and finds he doesn't care if she looks like a bird. It's so symbolic to me. It puts more into the light how big Tezuka was on love and compassion, how he didn't believe looks defined a person, but more the quality of their heart.

That was not the only story in "Space." In fact, it only took up about 12 pages. I hope this has triggered your memory. It was in vol. 3.

I'll check it out again. Due to reread some of those anyway. That volume was the most dissapointing to me of the 6 out so far, so of course I probably missed something potent/good. Just working on another reread of Jungle Emperor which along with Phoenix remains my favorite Tezuka.

The story you talk about sounds really great, I'd love to see your interpretation of it. Tezuka was so full of ideas, even his tiny, throw away ideas are quite strong sometimes...

To tell you the truth, vol. 3 wasn't my idea of a great read either. I mean, anything Tezuka writes is good compared to anybody else, but some of his works can't be compared to the great stuff he's done. Ummmm, that didn't make much sense....

Don't worry, I know exactly what you mean. The problem is, vol. 2 & 4 of that series are SO good that much of everything else is a bit of a letdown. Although that isn't really true either (as you are saying), because even when Tezuka isn't at his best, he is still so often well above everyone else.
