An Introduction of Sorts

So I suppose I should formally introduce myself.

My long-time nickname is Lynny; I'm going into my senior year in highschool. I was introduced to Tezuka by a good friend (known around here as Mr Skunk?) and so over the past year or two I've ceased caring about ANYTHING else. Aside from, you know, the occasional video game.

My personal life consists of panic attacks and writing fanfiction. The latter I am very passionate about. I’ve taken up Tezuka fanfiction as my main concern.

I am very fond of the 2001 movie Metropolis. I’ve read some of Tezuka’s lone sci fi work (Lost Wold, Next World 1, Metropolis) and some Astro Boy, and most importantly some Black Jack (Black Jack being the series I care most about; I also watch a subbed anime of the same)

I have a lot of love for Tezuka. I even miss him to some degree. I believe he had a lot to share and that he did it in a beautiful way.

But the great truth is I know little about the Astro Boy phenomenon. Regardless of how much I actually like the series, I feel I need to learn more about it to better understand a great portion of the Tezuka world.

So that’s my goal here - learn. I hope I can do this place justice.

My biased advice is to start with the 80s series. It's in colour and has reasonably good animation (excellent for its time) and plenty of emotion.

The episode The Time Machine has Black Jack in it. :)

Yeah! The newer series had a crummy Ambassador Magma-look-a-like and multiple apperences of Rainbow Parakeet, but it didn't have the awesomeness of Black Jack.

And I pretty sure the 60's series didn't ether.

80's series, huh? Sounds good, especcially if I get to enjoy the extremely God-like Black Jack. I hope his cameo is awkward.

So is this series availiable on DVD or TV at any time?

Thanks.

I am not aware the 80s is available anywhere on TV, but there are DVD releases. In Australia, there is the Madman release (I am not affiliated with them). There is also a release in the USA, but I don't remember a link for it ( someone else will hopefully give the information ;) ) .
There are also some *cough* "free" copies around there, if you want a few low quality episodes only

Why, you don't think we are smart enough? :p

Welcome, LynnyM! :)

Manga Entertainment also released the 1980 Astroboy series. It's a lot less expensive than the Australian release. You'd still have to rely on downloading to get the two full first Japanese episodes that are missing. But maybe you already knew that through Mr Skunk...? Anyway, everything on the matter is said now.

Wow! Wordart just for me??

I'll start looking for the DVD collections, then. I don't know if I'll be able to buy any outright, because there's a bunch of big purchases on the horizon that I have to give top priority to. Maybe I can find the set for rent...
