Hi, dudes and dudettes.
Let me introduce myself : my name is Jérôme Wicky, I'm a French journalist and beginning comic book writer : for now my work only includes six published stories for the French "Journal de Mickey", starring characters such as Mickey Mouse, Eega Beeva, Minnie, Daisy... most of the time in a sci-fi/fantasy setting. I have no idea if they will ever be published in the US, but if that happens, I'll let you know.
I know it might sound strange, but even though I work free-lance for Disney, let me assure you that I am a die-hard Tezuka fan and think his work is immensely superior to anything Disney has ever produced (just my personal opinion). It's just that, well, it's been an ages-old tradition for Disney to licence their characters to foreign publishers, and that is not the case with Tezuka Productions (not in France at least). Given the choice, I'd certainly love to have a try at writing Astro, Blackjack, Bandar Book or Kimba.
(Yes, Kimba. I'm not forgetting the whole Kimba/Simba story, and yes, I'm definitely on Tezuka's side on this one, obviously.)
But hey, I'm not complaining, I'm having good fun sending Mickey on missions in outer space and maybe I'd get cold feet if I actually had to work on Tezuka's characters ! Tezuka Productions might not license their characters to local creators, but here in France, we have a lot of Tezuka comics translated these days, and it doesn't seem to be stopping anytime soon. If you want, I'll check out here from time to time and let you know of recent releases.
