I'm having a problem with my video card. I would be working on the computer and the screen would start to flash on and off. It does the same thing when it's connected through the DVI or analog connection on the home computer. This happens intermittently. The power light is still on so the monitor is getting power. The monitor works fine when I hook it up to my laptop. Does any know what could be wrong or should I just hook the monitor up to the onboard video card?

Is it a new video card, or did it use to work until recently?
By searching on the web, I found a loosely related topic in a forum, where it was advised to reinstall the video drivers. Nothing says whether it worked or not If nothing works, it might be worth a try...
A solution could be to start your computer with a live CD not based on Windows to see whether something changes. If you feel adventurous, I can direct you to websites where you can download such CDs.

What OS?
Update your drivers and OS.
Make sure you completely remove the old drivers before you reinstall or update.
Turn off any anti virus before install of Video or audio drivers.

It's a Nvidia FX5500. I run Windows XP Media Center. I'll try and reinstall the drivers and see if that helps.

I found more matches with your card. Even though I found something which seems to be related to Windows 95/98, the same problem is described here.

its happened on every nforce 4 ultra board i own...

If simple reinstallation doesn't work, you could have a try with the very latest drivers, or with older ones...

I've had similar issues with my GeForce graphic cart at this year's beginning. The card's ventilator did make funny noises already for a couple of months until eventually the screen started off with leaving out showing hyperlinks and furthermore even whole combinations of sentences and pictures. I guess it was because of the card didn't receive enough cooling anymore, therefore it simply got overheated.
Not saying you might have the same problem as I've had, but if that would be the case you most likely might have to look around for getting a new one. All driver updates and re-installations are futile when the card itself already has choined the choir invisible.

It's still flashing intermintantly. Nvidia said that I had the newest driver. So I'll have to use the onboard video card until I get a new DVI card. I'll have to upgrade my mother board and processor to go to AGP. So I'll have to wait awhile to do that.

Hardware problems may be a real pain. Where I work, we recently introduced USB sound cards, only to realize that they failed to work on about half of the computers, emitting ear-breaking garbage After a few days of investigation, we discovered (and it was confirmed later by the manufacturer) that they didn't work on motherboards which use USB buses of the type Nvidia revision 2. Yeah, thanks Nvidia

I just hooked the monitor to the onboard video card and it flashed even worse. I then hooked the monitor to my laptop and it worked for awhile but then it started flashing on the laptop. I think my monitor must be fried. Now it flashes so bad that I can't even see anything on the monitor. I'm not looking forward to buying a new monitor or video card. Either way it won't be cheap.
