What's a good place to host a website?

My friend and I want to make a Tezuka fansite. Not along the lines of an informational site, but a non-official fansite to host our stories and pictures. Much along the lines of the many Japanese fansites. That being said, we'd like it to have a very professional look, with a nice looking and easy to navigate layout. Does anyone have any info of a good host to do this with? Neither one of us know much about web design... Also, cost isn't a problem.

I'm with cjb.cc and they're very good. It's free, you get 300MB storage, 5GB bandwidth, and there's no ads or banners or popups. You also get PHP, a MySQL database, and FTP access. They also have a forum where you can get technical and design help.

The only restriction is the types of file you can upload. You can't host movie files, MP3s, archives or executables. For $3 a month these restrictions are lifted, and you can store 1GB.

My site is http://astroboy.cjb.cc/

http://tezuka.cjb.cc is still free. :-)

Free? What is the bandwidth limitation?

I just tried your site, it is not available.

Thank you Stoogefreaky and Dr Frag, I will certainly look into those places. :) LynnyM has told me that Homestead can be very good for a limited fee each month. Does anyone know anything about this, or could provide information to me whether it's good or not. Remember, this is a site to host artwork, writing, and maybe shrines to our favorite characters.... *shifty eyes* We may put up a journal and a bbs. Would the sites you mentioned let us do this?

Dr Frag, does the site you suggested have a program, or did you use something else to make the layout? We were thinking of making the layout in Dream Weaver. If we do that, will the site you suggested be able to host it? How does that work?

I designed mine from scratch using Dream Weaver 4, Notepad and my own software. Then I uploaded all the html, php and jpg files to the public_html folder in my cjb.cc account.

Dream Weaver is a great programme for designing web pages because you don't need to know any HTML codes. You just type in what you want, save the file, and upload it to your web site. Or you can use one of the thousands of free web templates available on the Internet.

After you've created on your computer what you want (the HTML files and pictures and stuff), you upload the files to the cjb.cc web site. They'll give you a login and password to access your account, and basically you copy all the files you've created to the site. When people go to http://YourSiteName.cjb.cc (or whatever) it'll automatically open the file index.html that you've created.

I'm not sure how much you know about making web pages, so let me know if you need more information. The specifics of how to upload the files are explained on the site, and they have a support forum if you have any problems.
