I'm not trying to push you to leave this site. You are still welcome here to discuss Astroboy or other topics juste like anybody else. I'm just trying to explain what resurrecting old threads is, why it's not a good thing and why it can really become a problem when done in excess.

Let's go back to the rules page (there's a link on the bar on top of every page of the forum). In the guidline section, there's this paragraph:

No resurrecting old threads unless you have something meaningful to add.
If a thread has been inactive for a month or longer, please do not add a post unless you have something important or meaningful to add. Consider starting a new thread instead.

If you need to see where you can see the dates on the threads, here are examples. I've also pointed out where you can find the "Rules" section.





But basically, it's all a matter of not going in excess. Writing something in all the threads of the last 30 days in the span a day or two, when there was no discussion anymore in many of those threads, while not technically against the above guideline, will also result in drowning the truly active threads. And a short reply that is not really substantial in a thread or two, even if those threads are very old, will not kill the forum either if done very occasionnally.

Yes, that's what I mean, and yes, make new threads if you want to bring something new. As fafner had pointed out, Sparx had started her own thread, "No topic just talk" so she could speak of anything that she wanted. You could also do the same thing if you have very random thoughts that you'd like to share, instead of creating a seperate thread for each of them. It depends of what you have to say.

I've just realized that I could see a list of every post I had deleted, and I deleted exactly 27 of your posts. Why? As I said, because we ended up with new threads on top of the forum in which there was no real new content.

I'll give you an example:

This is a thread in which the first and last posts were going back to May 3, 2003.

It's a nice suggestion... but it's FOUR YEARS after it happened! Really, I can't see the point of bumping up a thread that you do not find important yourself. This must have been one of the very first thread of this forum (I believe this forum exists since around that time in 2003) so when it's a brand new forum with very few threads, it's normal that somebody might want to test something, and there was no need for a test section at the time. Today, if a member wants to test his signature, he can just open any thread in which he posted and he'll see the result. So your suggestion was nice, yeah... but so late that it didn't matter anymore.

Now imagine you are a member here, you come and there are around 50 or 60 threads with posts like these. Would you want to open each of them to read that kind of things? I personally would not last very long on such a forum.

Same in this thread: the last post was February 14, 2004, and all you posted was "Hi"! That was not meaningful, not on topic, and it contributed to putting the forum in a clutter.

I'm not going to continue with the 24 other posts, because hopefully these examples explains well enough what I mean.

That, and the fact that you have been bragging about your 100,000 posts, but evading giving any evidence. Ok, anybody can come here and make any claims, but when somebody asks you to back it up, and you do not, the rest of us might think you were lying.

I have had over 3800 posts in 4 years because I am retired & have plenty of time on my hands. I refuse to believe that you, or any other 13 year old has 100,000 posts. Even if you were posting the day you were born, you still needed over 7,500 per year, or 641 per month. If you had started at age 8, that would be more believable age, but then you need 20,000 per year, nearly 1700 per month. Even if your posts were limited to 'hi' or some other triviality that was off topic, that is still a lot of work! Too much to be plausible. Fewer posts that actually say something worthwhile are much preferred over many that say nothing.

If you want to impress us, say something true. I do not even care if you are impressive or not, just be real. You do not need to be great to fit in around here, just be real!
