Hiya, I'm new.

Postby Tilas » 18 years ago

Hello! I'm new (obviously :P ). Can't beleive it's taken me this long to find an Astro forum... I've been a total Astro fan for a few years now. I've spent the past week re-watching the entire 2004 Astro series, just finished last night. Next up is the 80's series. XD
I was actually surprised to see this board active, seeing as how the site itself doens't look like it's been updated in ages. ^_^;
So uhm.... hi! :astro:

Welcome! :)

That's a good point... maybe we should say something to the site administrator, who knows if the lack of apparent updates it could turn people away? I haven't visted the site in ages so I didn't notice. :lol:

Welcome, Tilas. I will soon be 4,000; an old man, by anyone's standards. :lol: It is nice to see a few new born members. :D Please feel free to ask any questions about Atomu. I myself, am especially knowledgable about the 1960s anime, but we have other members who are more interested in later versions.

Aww thanks Astro Forever! ^_^

And thanks jeffbert, I've actually never seen the 60's version. I really want to get the DVDs eventually lol. I have both the 80's and the 2000 series on DVD, but the 2000 series is my favorite. I like how Tenma got such an important role in it. It kinda bothered me how he was only seen for like 2 episodes in the 80's version, then never heard from again....

Uran is my all time favorite character though!

As with the Shonen manga*, Dr. Tenma makes numerous appearances in the 1963 series, both as an enemy an friend. In 054 Duel on the Alps, Tenma hires Skunk to kidnap Atom's family, & hold them hostage. He demands Atom return to him as his son, or else. In 172 Herald Brothers, he helps Atom defeat bad guys who are posing as robots and leading a robot rebellion. Neither of these were in the English set.

I definatly have to get the 60s series. Tenma in the newest series was my favorite. I mean at first he seemed just nuts until you actually thought about his motives, then it was really rather sad.... He was a good character, and I LOVED his voice actor, it was so menacing lol.

:tenma: is the main reason why I like the 2003 series! I feel the same way you do (except for the voice actor since I have seen only a few minutes of the English version).
