How often do you backup your data?

I had a hard disk that suddenly stopped responding about a week ago, hopefully that had been backuped only a few days before. But that made me wonder how often people do backups.
I have had almost all of these behaviors toward backups. Until my first hard disk crash, I hadn't really thought about what could be backups :D Therefore the first one was a disaster  Then I adopted the first option as my moto: all data duplicated all the time. With the slow mediums of those old times, I was backuping my data all the time :p Then I gradually fell to the last option with the years passing, until a new hard disk crash! Those monsters seem to show up each time I lower my guard  Therefore I settled for an intermediary solution that I kept over the years. And for the first time, my backups were actually usefull :D I wouldn't go as far as saying it was a pleasure to have a hard disk crash, but it certainly makes things more easy to accept ;)
These days, I do complete backups about once a month. However, I have intermediary backups. For example, when I have finished something important, I backup the appropriate directory, in order to have a copy on a different medium (in case of a hard disk crash for example). Once a month, I gather all my intermediary backups (that have been made up to date), consolidate them in a single file that I dispatch on 3 different mediums, as well as sending it on a server on the Internet (so even if my house burns, I still have a not too old backup available).
This however is only about the essential data, "only" a few hundred megabytes. Less essential data amount to several hundred gigabytes. That's why I had added a step in my backups: copy any file that has changed to a dedicated hard disk when doing the main backups. Thoses are the backups that were usefull to me about a week ago.

I had a MB failure last sunmmer, & only then, did I begin making regular copies of my data. I actually bought two external drives although only 1 is connected right now. The other one actually had software that was supposed to automatically copy the data in real time. But I have nowhere to put it, except in the closet. My other external drive is .5 TB, & has about 4 to 5 copies of my data made over the past month or so. I only turn it on when either copying or deleting old data to make room for new data. This way I am assured that nothing is on the disk other than what I put on it, & everything I put on it stays on it.

Also, of great importance is the fact that my data is on either D or E drives. I do this because it seems that every year or two, Windows becomes too sluggish or messed up & I need to format C and install Windows fresh & new.

For newly created things, since "my docs" is in D, I can quickly copy it to E. Sometimes I use a 2GB memory stick for peace of mind.

I voted for once a year. These days, I'm not doing that much with my computer and therefore wouldn't lose anything crucial since my last backup, which was less than a year ago.

I've been lucky so far, I've never had a HD crashing. Knock on wood! :)

I don't trust my computer at all anymore. It corrupted about 3 of my year 12 school assignments last year, and then one day when I was working on one of my fanfics, it corrupted again and I ended up losing half my story, which I (very, VERY angrily) had to retype. I tried going back to a restore point, but it wouldn't even let me do that. Not long ago it kept freezing every 12-15 minutes, but now thankfully, it's not doing that as much. Reason being it had 211 infections, from where, I have NO idea. I'm getting a new computer soon though. I've already backed up my files and stuff to an external harddrive so I don't risk losing them to this piece of technological junk.

If I'm gonna to be able to get through Uni this year, it's NOT gonna be by this computer. We're gonna get a comp built up, with a quad core for the hard stuff that would kill this lame computer. :)
