Personally, I find GTA detestable.
Now, you're entitled to your own opinions of course, but...

It's about murdering, drug trafficing, sleeping with hookers, and, of course, theft!
Wait, are you allowed to talk about this on a "family-friendly" board like AO?

The best selling Video Game in HISTORY? :whistling: Maybe I'll put Astroboy in a version.
It's a game? Gotta stay interfaced. When we put Astroboy on Adult Swim, I thought that all that family censorship delusion was over. CN Adult swim is in no regard "Family Oriented" heck, even "Family Guy" is not "Family Friendly..."
The Cyber social dynamics of GTA are of course interesting. I had one of my songs on GTA vice city. And got a nice check for it! So I don't really care what complaints some might have. However, this is without doubt the ultimate expression of electronic pop culture. All the kids will be here and like if you're not. you're out of touch with reality.
Which simply speaking, is acting grown up when not being monitored by adults. :tenma:

I like the whole moral vaccum shctick of GTA but I'm sympathetic to a lot of critics, especially when some kids are dragged to one of my friend's parties and it's playing.
This freind rented a T rated dirtbike/atr racing game with no interst in racing, he just likes to overheat the engine and get the rider to fall with the hopes of getting run over by the other racers.

Yes, I keep interesting freinds.

His brother in law went out to buy GTA4 at midnight, and word has it he's locked himself in the basemant for the weekend with his wife throwing food down the stairs every few hours. Yyeahhh....

Yeeeaaahhh!
I've been playing till I fell out! :w00t:
The city is so huge! The only way it could be better is if the city were populated with zombies! REsident evil two would be perfect in such a setting. Racoon city!

I don't have a home system myself, haven't had one since my Sears Atari ripoff in the early 80's. I like GTA when I visit my bud, and when I'm at a megaplex or Dave and Buster's I like to waste my hard earned money on 'House of the Dead'.

The irony of irony:I don't even a have an attention span long enough for video games. :sigh:

Look, I'm not one of those retards who whine about video games fostering violent behaviour. I'd be the last person to complain, I'm addicted to video games and I've played them my whole life. But this is fairly ridiculous, don't you think?
GTA is just a means for middle-aged men and teenage boys with no girlfriends to pretend that they're big bad criminals banging hookers and speeding around in hot cars.

It's laughable. Completely.

And of course, then there's the basic argument.
If it weren't bad enough, parents who are too retarded to be able to figure out the easy-read ESRB rating system, which is hardly a code as it screams "M FOR MATURE" on the front freakin' cover, buy this crap for their little kids. And they're so stupid, the fact that they get ASKED FOR THEIR ID when they buy it isn't a little bit of a tip-off for them!!

Oh my god. This is too stupid.

Maybe some people do that, but it's not the point of the game, only a way to play with it.
I have played GTA3 and enjoyed it (although not to the point to spend hours and hours on it). The game is well done, moral issues put aside. It is a basic quest-based game: you have a main quest, and optional quests you can bypass. Same thing in Morrowind, and probably Oblivion (never played the last one unfortunately). If GTA4 is even remotely similar, I guess it is a good game too (again, moral issues put aside).

It isn't the developers' nor the publisher's fault if some people are too dumb to read correctly the package.

Daichi, if you are to flame down a game, choose in-game examples instead of unrelated ones :D The way some people play with it or the fact that there are people too dumb to check the game before buying it don't count ;)
The real sign that someone has become a fanatic is that he completely loses his sense of humor about some important facet of his life. When humor goes, it means he's lost his perspective.

To me, that's the beauty of it, it's so over the top juvenile, gutteral, amoral and all around depraved, it's impossible to take seriously. Like you said, it's laughable.

 So it ain't the material in question so much as the whiny parent groups who want big daddy guv'mint to tell them what to get for their kids, understood, my friend.
Video game companies want business from both parents/kids and cases of arrested development like my friends. They bend over backwards to accomodate both, but sheesh, some of these parents think the latter audience doesn't even exist. Just like those dense heads who get in a tizzy because some comic books and cartoons aren't kid friendly.
