It is because Anakin cares for others that he fell: he couldn't handle the fact that helping others could be out of his reach, however powerfull he is. Master Yoda had told him to "rejoice for the ones who unify with the Force", but he couldn't accept it.
First he lost his mother to sandpeople. There was nothing he could do to avoid it, but resented not having the power to do something. Then he had a vision where he saw Padme dying, and was willing to do anything, whatever the price, to gain the power to save her. That's why he sided with Darth Sidious and wounded Master Windu, in the desperate hope that Darth Sidious had told him the truth (well, he hadn't, but that's beyond the point). Ironically, that's his desperate quest for power to save Padme that killed her at the end.[/QUOTE]
Oh the irony!

Also, Atlas wanted to change Astro into a different robot to help him take over the world in the 1980 anime. Tenma did the same in the 2003 anime.
