Have you ever felt at loss for words?

There's a number of reasons to feel at loss for words, if from happiness or pain. But I guess mine comes from those bad experiences when the world feels like it's caving in.
Like...lets say a friend you've grown up with from kindergarden (whom you are close to and trust) says something harsh, completely out of the blue. It hits you so hard, that for a moment you simply stare at them...and then, this empty feeling in your chest festers.
It swallows you up, leaving you feeling numb that you don't know what to think, what to say. As if, you don't understand why it's happened and you just can't find your voice to speak up about it, and end up wandering off in a daze.
A little poetic but really, has anyone ever experience this? Because I did a few days ago...

I always seem to feel at loss for words when somebody says something harh. It's like I just can't believe it. I wish I wasn't like that and was able to speak my mind as it happens. It's not so much a problem as I get older and the people around me a grown ups, too. It wasn't the same when I was a teenager.

I'm at a loss of words for a lot of reasons. I could be shocked that someone would say something mean to me, I could be shy and proud when I did a good job at something and someone says that to me, I could be bashful when this cutie asks me out on a date, and I could be speechless when I see something that's totally, well, out there, if you get my drift.

Probably the most recent, biggest two...
*When I learned Miki Matsubara died. It was years ago and of a horrible type of cancer, and I had no idea she was gone forever until one night about a week ago at one in the morning. To give you an impression of what we've lost,
listen to this.
*When I ordered a gorgeous Lynn Minmei figure in her leotard from the end of the
Macross movie, then found out the guy I bought it from didn't ship it and had closed his account. I knew I'd get a refund (and I did), but it was a moment where I just wanted to make hissing noises and run around.

Dear LittleAcorn!! How AWFUL! I'm so sorry to hear that, and yes I completely understand. That kind of pain tends to come from a rupture in a deep friendship. It's like you're missing a limb -- and yet you have no choice but to "face the music."
This is one of lifes harshest lessons, and right now just a few days out it hurts the most. Even though it wont seem possible, trust that the pain will subside. You might even become good friends again, but the crack will always be there. In the meantime, be extra good to yourself, and know that youve got friends out here who love you and are praying for you!

If I can't think of anything to say, I usually spurt nonsense or something that has nothing to do with the conversation. Doing so usually inserts some humor into the atmosphere and the tension either breaks or subsides slightly.
Like last night my manager was yelling at me for supposedly talking back to her. When she was done, all I had to say for myself was "Oranges." and I walked away. We were both in good spirits the rest of the night.
Also, Oranges is just a fun word to say.
