2012 theories

Postby Ghost » 14 years ago

Okay, this is something that I want to discuss with some people.

It is currently January of 2011 and most people have heard of the Mayan Calender predicting the apocalypse in December of 2012. Some people out there actually believe that this is true but thankfully to my knowledge this number seems to be decreasing.

I don't think the world is going to end in 2012 and I will explain my reasons. The Mayans calender does not actually state that the world will end in 2012, that's just when the calender ends. The calender on your wall ends on December 31st, does that mean that's when the world is going to end on that day? No, that just means that the year is ending and a new one is starting. Maybe they just decided to stop the calender after 500 years.

But that's just a theory Also keep in mind, yes the Mayans understood astronomy to an insane degree. But every time there was a solar eclipse they would sacrifice their virgins because they thought the eclipse was a dragon swallowing the sun.

Now, what I think the #1 thing we need to worry about is the people that think the world is going to end. People will probably be rioting and throwing rocks into windows and looting. So I think we should stock up on food, guns and ammo, and barricade our houses to protect your property. The biggest threat in 2012 is ignorance in my opinion.

People have been trying to predict the end of the world since the human race began. If any of those predictions were right then you wouldn't be reading this right now.

So what makes you think that this prediction will be correct if the several predictions before were incorrect?

I'm curious to hear from other people on this. If this topic is too sensitive to discuss I understand if this thread gets removed.

Why? There were quite a significant number of people who thought the end of the world was coming around 2000, and nothing like that happened. We used to hear about Nostradamus, now it's the Mayan calandar. In 5 years, it will be something else.

I've been thinking about this, too. I remember hearing readings in church about the end of the world, and wondered if I'd be around to see it.

About 12 years ago I heard about the Mayan calendar speculation. Could it be true? What if nothing happens? For a people so long ago to have drafted a calendar that stretched sooo far into the future, and THEN to suddenly stop, I have to admit, it seems really peculiar and not logical.

I think being prepared for a short-term emergency (up to a couple weeks) is something everyone could/should do. Beyond that you need enough land to grow food, access to water, etc. If something cataclysmic is going to befall us, I wonder how much we can actually prepare for it. After 911 (I live about 1 hour north of NYC), my attitude towards life, death and control over world events changed dramatically. I know I would do my best to protect, comfort and assist in any way possible in the face of calamity, and if my life were threatened/taken from me, I am secure in my faith. In the end I think that's all any of us can do.

BTW some Christians believe Jesus is returning May 21, 2011 . . . so I wonder how that prophesy connects to the Mayan calendar, if at all

Also if I recall correctly on the Mayan Calender or the people who made it, they winded up killing themselves by poisening their water supply. How? Because they kept throwing their sacrifices in there and drunk from it. And what did they do to solve the problem...? Yep, you guessed throwed more bodies in there!

Honestly I'm nervious about this 2012 thing, not that it's running out, but people might do when it does. I'm scared of what human capablites are, if we'll get some groups breeching stuff or people losing their marbles over this.

I just hope when 2012 comes, it goes quickly so we've got nothing to worry about. Plus I got 7 rescue rabbits, I care about them like they were my babys  I don't want anything bad happening to them!

And Astro Forever I think you're right, didn't they say that a while ago too? I must've heard it like 2 times already and it gives me the creeps x_x

I think there was also something similar to that in 2003 where a religious leader said the world would end and he brought all his followers to a cliff (I think) to kill themselves, but they waited and nothing was happening. The leader said that he made a miscalculation and that it would happen later on in 2003. They came out again to see if it would happen and did it? Nope.

Here's a shockingly-accurate prediction of the events that will transpire on December 12, 2012.

Thousands of freezing, tiny ice particles will fall from the sky, coating the Earth throughout this side of the hemisphere. It will interfere with peoples' lives and limit mobility. Meanwhile, people will be half-panicking and frequenting public gathering centres, and purchasing a set series of items for others. These items will be hidden in their homes and covered in paper with symbolic imagery, then set under a glowing tree. These same people will also hunt for a cold, headless dead animal of limited flight and squirrel it away, preparing to stuff its rear end with breadstuffs for a specific evening.

The next day, it will be exactly the same.

...I watched an old friend of mine drop out of high school because she decided there was no point to staying for the end, since the whole world would explode the year after we graduate. People who believe in this apocalypse make me sad.

What Fauna said is partially true. It basically means that some of the planets will realign, but the most it will do is screw up our compasses and cellphones.

I've never really worried about this, and I don't think anyone should.
