I've got three different comic projects slated for this year, and I really want to get through them all, but due to the fact that I'll be in college soon and still have two ongoing series, I need to designate certain parts of the year to work on them. A comic goes by faster if I'm more interested in it and it's easy by my standards, but...I love all three of my latest projects.
So, I'd like your help. Potentially some of you may be my audience, after all.
Anyone who's read Cinderelliot or Quinn is probably familiar with my art style and sense of humour, but I want to try something different this year in terms of premise. I've sorted out my projects, and I want you guys to give me an opinion on which one sounds more interesting or promising...
Android Girl A.M.I.
Rating: G
Progress of Development: 70%
Episodes: 7?
Story: A six-year-old robot girl named A.M.I. (Ami Mizuno-Phillips as her civilian name) is inexplicably reactivated by her famous roboticist mother. As she moves through her mother's company and the outside world, A.M.I. learns she has an older brother (Robby, the first humanoid robot, who was put away after being attacked by humans), a missing father (a ground-breaking scientist assumed dead after an explosion during A.M.I.'s first attempted activation), and a plethora of powers in her system. A.M.I. revives her brother, makes some human friends and begins to adapt to human life, but enigmatic rival company owner Xavier Marte has been building custom robots for criminals and stealing parts, and could possibly have something to do with A.M.I.'s father's disappearance and the latest anti-robot attacks. She and her brother attempt to get to the centre of the case.
Pros: Based on an unfinished comic I made in 2006-2008, this version is better than it's ever been. The characters are great, the story is looking pretty fun so far, and after finally getting Xavier a new design for the first time in four years, I think I'm ready to proceed.
Cons: I haven't gotten all the episodes planned out yet, and I'm afraid of the series going on too long and ending unfinished, like its predecessor.
Westbury Detectives
Rating: PG-13
Progress of Development: 60%
Episodes: 4? 5?
Story: Young investigator Jack Arthur is transferred to an independant agency in New York State at the same time a young mafioso only known as "Pinhead" moves there to try and start his own gang. Jack is still struggling to remember an accident he had when he was five that left him with a large scar on his back, but has to set it aside to deal with Pinhead and a flamboyant master thief, a masked supposedly-robotic thief, a female bounty hunter, and drug-laced temporary tattoos.
Pros: This is the final version of a detective series I've worked on since 2005. I'm making it into something more realistic and artsy, and the style I want to try out is a little like that of Lupin III. It's all so different from what I've made over the years, and I could get a lot of style excersize from this.
Cons: I don't have enough energy for this to be a huge series, since it's been in and out of development for half a decade. Some little things in this version (i.e. Pinhead's origins, a character named Emma Bishop, Lupus O'Hare and his assistant's origins) might have to be removed or only be touched on briefly. I also don't know how to contain Jack's scar mystery into this much space...
Super Fighter Gigan-X
Rating: PG
Progress of Development: 50%
Episodes: 5-8
Story: In 2076, global conflict has been dramatically reduced, but at the cost of a short-lived but destructive piloted robot war fifteen years prior. The Gigan brand of robots has been refined, and the plan to create a defense force against potential extremists or natural disasters has been authorized, with the first pilot of four being Roger Rossi. An incredible pilot, mechanic and strategist, Roger finds himself having to train the other pilots, as well as stop one of the Earth's spaceport colonies left from the last war from attacking again.
Pros: I love the main characters in this. I resisted falling to the cliches of a typical giant robot series and made all the cool character archetypes into main characters, so I think I might have fun with all this. Roger is the first truly respectable gay character I've made, and look, he pilots a giant robot!
Cons: This is mechanical and background intensive and sweet mother of God do I hate drawing mechanics and backgrounds over and over again. ;A;
...So, what do you guys think? If all goes well, I can do a complete series of two of these three within the year. (But at the same time, Hyperspace Bunny and Quinn need to end...gah) Can anybody give me opinions or criticisms?
