According to this news article, Vertical (who licensed Black Jack, MW, Ayako, among others.) will soon bring Princess Knight locally. They will be releasing P.K. as two volumes, the first in October and the second in December. Long, long wait.

The last time we got Princess Knight here was when Viz serialized one chapter in their Shoujo magazine, which was all they ever put out. There was also bilingual (English & Japanese) Princess Knight volumes released by Kodansa, but those had to be imported and are now out of print.

While I'm not too big on shoujo or Princess Knight, I'm nonetheless glad that another classic Tezuka series will soon be available, again, and also surprised. I'm also glad it's something intended for younger audiences that Vertical is releasing, for once.

I'm surprised actually. Ribon no Kishi (the Japanese name) doesn't seem like Vertical material. I would expect Alabaster or even Vampires before Princess Knight.

The big question for me is whether it's going to be the original Shoujo club story or the Nakayoshi remake as the article doesn't seem to specify. I'd love to see the Shoujo club as I already have the 6 volume Kodansha collection.

Naturally I'd be pleased if Twin Knights was also released. It'd be perfect to have the original, the sequel and the remake.

This is incredible! I'll certainly be picking these volumes up when they each come out; two books seems like not a lot, but they must be really thick.

Like Dr. Jerk said, this is great because if gives younger manga fans a chance to get into Tezuka without having to read something childhood-traumatizing like Ayako. When I was fourteen, I probably would've killed for something like this to be announced (I was a big Sapphire fan at the time).

I remember ViZ was considering publishing Princess Knight back in 2007, and they printed two translated chapters in Shojo Beat. They asked people who bought that issue to write in and tell them if they should go further, which I did, but they didn't print any more. (It was probably a good thing, since ViZ has a hang-up with horizontally-flipping any Tezuka work it publishes except Pluto, while Vertical's been leaving its PG to PG-13 Tezuka titles in the normal format.)

Sure good news will pick them up if they become available.

Vertical is going good as ever with tezuka manga now only if i could say the same thing about VIZ en DarkHorse comics giving me such a hard time to find even somthing like the Metropolis manga and some of the Phoenix volumes for a reasonable price these days ...

I am impressed with Vertical's releases. They give a nice presentation of Tezuka's works.

Since Princess Knight is a sexist work, I wonder if Vertical will tackle Jungle Emperor later on? I've heard complaints of how racist it is.

NBC enterprises who wanted to take it after the great succes from astro boy and kimba in the US wanted only typical superhero stories the din't like the hole idea of a girl who was also a boy so that is not to take to seriously besides the fact it's officialy a shojo for girls and they din't even wanted to take something like that in the first place.

And about a future relese of Kimba i don't see that coming any time soon from Vertical but that argain Princess Knight also isn't something they usually bring out.

Jungle Emperor would probably be something I would be more willing to try out than Princess Knight. But who knows, considering how short PK is, maybe I still will consider it despite my distaste for shoujo... Although Jungle Emperor isn't all that appealing to me either.

But nonetheless, it still is great that they're releasing PK. Vertical is doing great with Tezuka's works indeed.

I hope that they might one day consider The Three-Eyed One or Don Dracula, both titles that I wouldn't mind trying out. Although Don is even less likely...

FOR THOSE WHO LOVE SAPPHIRE, she portrays a Lois Lane reporter-type in the anime version of AMBASSADOR MAGMA, which was imported, but only on VHS. I have a set, & though the series is quite heavy, Sapphire & her reporter friends are usually comic-relief types. You may be able to find copies on AMAZON.COM, as I did.

SAY WAT!? OMG! That's so cool! Come to think of it, I do remember that Shojo Beat showed a preview in the magazine a long time ago.
