Has anyone heard of Animerama?

I found something recently that Tezuka made that I find to be very interesting.

Two days ago I found a series of anime films titled "Animerama." This is a series of three adult anime films that were made by Osamu Tezuka. Now I've watched the third movie and not the first two. They are pretty graphic and a little disturbing.

The first film is titled "A Thousand & One nights" According to Wikipedia, this is one of the longest animated films ever made.

The second film is titled "Cleopatra" I'm afraid that I don't know that much about this and the wiki doesn't say much either. However this is suppose to contain a lot of nudity.

The third film is titled "Belladonna" or "Belladonna of Sadness"
This is the one film that I saw. It was animated in three different styles and it is a sad story. It takes place from a normal Christian wedding, however it doesn't go right. The town then accuses the wife, Belladonna of witchcraft and being a witch. So they torture her, cut her and rape her continuously until she dies. This is one of the saddest, yet disturbing animated films I've ever seen.

There is a trailer for it on youtube, but I don't think it's a good idea to post a link to the trailer here as younger users are on here. Not to mention the trailer was pretty bad to. But I will warn you all before you look up the trailers to any of these. They are pretty graphic and can be disturbing, you've been warned.

Also keep in mind, these films were produced by Osamu Tezuka. Astro Boy is like kindergarten compared to this stuff.

I've heard of all three films, although I've never heard of that trilogy name until now.

Can't say I'm interested or find these appealing, especially not with Cleopatra.

Totally understandable. But I guess Tezuka wanted to do something different. I'm probably not going to watch Cleopatra or the other the film that he made. Belladonna did enough damage to me already, I don't need to make it worse.

I just wanted to know if anyone here knew that he did this and I think it's interesting.

I once learned that One Thousand and One Arabian Nights and Cleopatra had limited theatre releases in America during the 1970's adult cartoon boom (for example, look up Ralph Bakshi's-- on second thought, don't), and one of them used to be available in English on VHS, but I can't remember which one.

I'd love to see One Thousand and One Arabian Nights (just because I've heard praise for its animation quality, I swear), but Belladonna would probably mess me up pretty badly.

I thought Cleopatra was an home-only release in America, at least according to Wikipedia...

And yeah, Tezuka basically did wanted to do something different. He was known for never being completely happy with his works, and usually made it into a habit to remake things or try out new experiments. This 'trilogy' of sorts was one of those experiments.

He was also quoted once saying that he wanted to make something even more erotic than these three films.

I've been working on for a while and I'm almost finished ripping a bootleg subtitle track for 1001 Nights. As far as I know, there hasn't been any subtitle file for the movie online, until now. I haven't watched the two other movies yet. Belladonna is usually considered the best of the bunch, unfortunately it didn't have Tezuka's involvement.

I forgot to mention that. I believe Tezuka abanded the project and went back to drawing manga. Belladonna was pretty disturbing nevertheless.

Tezuka was always drawing manga. He had a very tight schedule, every single day.

Hello to all of you. I sort of like Tezuka s manga and the movies he is involved in; i want to watch the 1001 nights or Arabian Nights 'senya ichiya monogatari' (1969, Yamamoto - Tezuka) (it has so many names, i don't know which one is the correct) But i can't find subtitles anywhere. That's how i end up here...
Does anyone have them? (the subs i mean) Would you share them with me? Pretty please?

Do you have the movie? You'll need it in order to load the subtitles over the video. Throw me an email if you do. (although I don't have my laptop for a few days so I won't be able to do anything at the moment)
