So today when I woke up in the morning, as I got up to leave my bedroom, I noticed something strange in my eye. One of those 'eye floaters' that usually appear when someone looks at a source of light or at the sun. I call these things "sun stains", and they're usually blue or red depending on what surface you're looking at and can be seen even when you close your eyes. I'm sure everyone knows what I mean. This one however is a rather big one, in the shape of a rather long streak, and is in the corner of my right eye.

It was rather annoying by how big and noticeable it was, usually I just get small sun stained floaters, and they usually go away in a few minutes. But this one wouldn't, and I was starting to get really bugged by it. An hour passed, it was still there, another hour, and still there.

It is now 8:54 PM and, still there. I swear that it hasn't even diminished in size, which I guess is usually how these sun stained floaters go away. But no, it has been in the same place for hours and it is really starting to worry me. It's also especially noticeable on blue surfaces, so obviously I'm being distracted even as I type this.

I have tried shutting my eyes closed for some time, and blinking them, but I swear that it only makes the floater much more noticeable. And when I close my eyes, it's kinda like a little orange streak in a deep corner. Either way, it will not go. My right eye also feels tired'ish, especially in the corner where I'm seeing this streak, but I'm not sure if feeling tired in that eye is just a coincidence.

I seriously don't know what's up. It should have gone away by now a long time ago, that's usually how my floaters work for me, personally. And if I still have it by tomorrow morning after a night's rest, then I swear I'll become even more worried. Unfortunately it's not like I can get it checked right now. My doctor's appointment is on the 12th, and even then, our doctor is a general family doctor, not someone who specializes in eyes and I have no idea when my next eye appointment is, provided if one was even made.

I'm starting to wonder if maybe my eye got scratched, somehow. Because I'm pretty sure that I didn't look at any light source when I woke up this morning. Perhaps I saw some light shining through my door from the window in the other room, but I shouldn't think that would do anything of this sort. My eye also doesn't hurt, and I haven't been rubbing it at all last night. It's like this all happened in a split second.

...So yeah, rather worried. I tend to get paranoid about my own health, but, this is much.

Can you ask an optometrist? I don't know anything about your town, but it may not be that hard to get an appointment soon if you shop around, you may get lucky and get an appointment very soon if there is a cancellation somewhere. At least where I live it's a lot easier to see an optometrist than a physician.

From what you describe, it seems like it could be normal from what I know of floaters, but of course a proper exam would be ideal as I'm not a specialist.

I know how you feel however. A few years ago, I developed tinnitus and I was sure I was never going to be able to fall asleep properly again. It resolved itself as I found the cause after a a year or two (cold temperature!), which made it easy to prevent.

Isn't that condition similar to insomnia? I'm probably wrong though.

Getting an appointment set is difficult because it's something I have to ask my parents about first, and my mom has the attitude that I'm perfectly fine. I'm not sure how right she might be, but my parent's word are kinda final.

Also, I'd rather not trust just some random optometrist, and would rather go to the regular one. And again we don't know if we do have an appointment there set or not, and obviously wouldn't know when. I guess it would be something to check, but I would have to dig through mum's calenders and that would also be asking too much...

Hmmmm, it's very possible you could have eye-strain (sometimes staring at a screen for so long can bring up floaters and that).

However, it could be something more serious if it's come on this sudden. It's possibly it could be retinal damage, and in those cases you need to get seen straight away.

Then again I could have it wrong because I'm not an expert, but I wouldn't wait until on this. Tell your parents and get seen by an eye expert.

I am not a doctor, but I would say it looks like a blood vessel problem, a clot or a leak. I think it is preferable to see a (real) doctor, even if it isn't serious. A few years ago, my mother woke up with a strong tinnitus. A week later she went to see the doctor, but it was too late, the internal ear was too much damaged by a blood vessel problem, and she is now permanently half-deaf with that ear. Something could have been done if she had seen a doctor more quickly.

I noticed that the floater just kinda disappeared at around 10 PM. I mean, I didn't see anything red while looking at blue surfaces. And today I still don't see anything off.

But it still seemed unnatural for it to last so long.

And like I said, I wish I could see a doctor sooner, but the soonest is the 12th.

It was probably something like a super floater (Coined the term myself, thank you very much). I had something like that in my eye for over a week and I woke up one day to find it gone randomly.

Either that or a rouge eyelash...

:3 That's a relief, at least it's gone (I'm sorry I hope I didn't make you panic, I'm one to over worry about stuff myself :d oh: I'm terrible for it.)

Still, no harm in mentioning it to the doc when you do finally get there. Better safe than sorry.

Beautiful term, I shall use it myself.

I think I still occasionally see a floater. Although I cannot tell if I'm just imagining things.

But man, a week, that's terrible.
