Life after Astro: Marine Boy and Jonny Quest

Okay, so by 1965 (or maybe it was '66) my beloved Astro Boy was gone from the airwaves, and I never saw him again until about 1989 when I purchase a VHS tape from Tod (the guy who started the Right Stuf).

What was an almost-teenage girl to do (they didn't have "tweens" back then)? Astro was my WHOLE LIFE!! There was no Dark Horse, no Internet or Google or Astroboy-Online!!!

Well, to help fill the gap (never completely, mind you . . . ) I watched Marine Boy. It was okay -- and I do love anything to do with the ocean, but he just seemed like an undersea Astro wanna-be

And then came Jonny Quest (his personality seemed a bit more like Astro's, somehow) :ninja: But the show wasn't on for very long!

I'm really thrilled after all these years I can go back and catch up on my FAVORITE :astro: :astro: :astro: :astro:

Any of you guys watch either of these other series?

I was a big fan of The Real Adventures of Johnny Quest back in the late '90s. I remember that I had a glow-in-the-dark t-shirt with the logo of that series on it. :D

Never heard of Marine Boy though.

Oh I agree, what I would have given when I was a child to just be able to see the Astro Boy episodes I had always missed, or watch again those that had made such a strong impression on me!!! VCRs were so expensive back then (and so huge)! The teenagers here will never realize how lucky they are.

No, but I'm probably not in the right generation. I have seen a few series from the 60s growing up, but I have no recollection of these.

I vaguely remember Marine Boy, at least the theme. Our inactive member ATOMAN had shown me a few episodes from his collection, & several were Marine Boy. I watched the JQ DVDs a few years ago, & some of them were fairly intense. That is, I as an adult was on the edge of my seat, as the saying goes.

I remember loving Marine Boy when I was very very young. I wouldn't mind seeing it again.

Astroboy and Marine Boy would make excellent members for a Junior version of the classic Superfriends super-hero team with Marine acting as Aquaman to Astro's Superman. ;)

I would have to say Ponyboy from the book The Outsiders reminds me the most of Astro. He fights when he has to but he never really wants to hurt anyone and he sees bigger posibitlies then always being weighed down by the fact that he's a poor/unwealthy greaser. If you havnt read The Outsiders I strongly seggest it, it is a very life changing book
