I cannot imagine how some internal measurements could be made without physical contact, but this article is cool:

Scanadu developing a real-life medical tricorder

Moreover, I have no idea what the prefix 'tri-' could possibly mean, seeing that Trek's scanners find many things. :p

Perhaps "tri" for tridimensional, since it can "scan" the body from a distance, instead of only a measure of a single parameter. My dictionary says it is "three-dimensional", but the web dictionary also acknowledges the former. Anyway, I assume "tri" must be a Latin prefix because it exists in other languages.

I've never watched Star Trek, but I find this fascinating anyway. :D A little scary as well, because if we're going to trust it, I sure hope it is extremely reliable.

hi- i have and tri-corders are super-advanced- and be nice if these could be type 1 technology- but we are no where that level- and you could say ASTROBOY is nearly type 1 technology but his heart is definitely caring human . STAR TREK technology is type 1 approaching type 2- hugs
