I watched that film whilst on the plane to China (I am still there...or here...or whatever). I also decided to re-watch 'Real Steel'.

@ Andriods101 - your are in China? That is so cool!! For how long? What part? Would love to go to Shanghai so I could try xiao long bao (soup dumplings)!
Now about those smurfs - I grew up before they appeared, and I never became familiar with them. Are they supposed to be Scandinavian? They kind of look like little trolls but friendly. Do they have "powers?" I'm smurf-deprived!!
@ avatargirl - I think

reminds you of Jeffbert because that's the emoticon he uses more than any other. We should make him a t-shirt with a big ol'

on the front!!

I believe the Smurfs originated from France AprilSeven. I think their creator was a Frenchman. They were probably inspired by legends about elves and gnomes.

The Smurfs were created by Peyo, a Belgian (Tintin is also Belgian; the country has a rich comics history).
They don't have powers, but Papa Smurf is a scientific/chemist who can create all kinds of magic potions!

So can their ennemy, the sorcerer Gargamel.
I've always assumed they were living in the Middle Ages.

THANKS EVERYONE- I love coming here cause of sweet people like APRILSEVEN and ASTRO FOREVER AND MARTY AND CHRIS! PAPA SMURF is apparently a wizard cause i seen the end of a episode where he got help from a little witch he help turn to the good side(she reminds me of my WENDY)to defeat a evil witch and then once he got the page from the witch's spell book he was able to turn BRAINY back into his normal self. IS BRAINY ever normal?- yes- he loves to talk just like i do- a little bit too much- oopsies said too much!- giggles- THE witch had turned BRAINY into a chicken. SO PAPA SMURF is a chemist/scientist/wizard and a friend to all who wants to be a friend- reminds me of a friendly ghost named CASPER and a friendly sweet robot named - ASTROBOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
YES from the movies and episodes i have seen they lived in the middle ages. SEEN ONE EPISODE where PAPA SMURF got GARGUMEL to help defeat a powerful evil by singing- that was in one of the SMURF'S CHRISTMAS shows- JONATHAN WINTERS did the voice i believe for GRANDPA SMURF in the series- (i think that was his name) and in the movie he did PAPA SMURF'S voice- WATCH the credits at the end of the movie! NEIL PATRICK HARRIS and the WOMAN(apologize for not knowing her name) were good in the movie. LOVE how she befriended the smurfs. Hope they MAKE A SEQUEL- left a kinda cliff-hanger- GIGGLES
so cute showing the little baby the smurf's 21 st century friends had- the baby was so darling cute-

They are living in the Middle Ages. The Smurfs series is a "sibling" of
Johan and Peewit, which is obviously situated in the Middle Ages. Characters from one of the series will occasionally appear in the other ones (more often Smurfs in Johan and Peewit than the other way though).
