I do not know why there are flames involved, but I suppose there must be a reason.

Whoa. That thing is NASTY!! Are they actually flames or some kind of filter to display the "destruction zone" - this would essentially be a "ray gun" - right?

Astro would NOT want to get hit with that thing (he doesn't seem to hold up well under electromagnetic waves)
