BLACK JACK vol. 17

Postby jeffbert » 13 years ago

:p I should probably have posted this on T in E, but nearly all its members also frequent this forum.

Anyway, I have been taking notes on the BJ series to indicate which stars appear in which stories, even if only very briefly. But there were a few, whose names I knew not. But the BJ table that I used as the basis for my notes actually helped me get the name of the bald guy,

who, among other roles plays in 128 Treasures of the Inca Empire He was one of the very few stars named in that table. #31, Tommy. For those few of us who remember the 1960s, this guy's name is, Magoo; I should have known. :p BTW, he plays Shibugaki's papa in the MIGHTY ATOM 1980s version.

Anyway, as the series end, volume 17 has tables in the back that list the names of the BJ stories, & their sequences, 1st, by original publication, & 2nd, by the reprint sequence. I had been working on my own table that put the names & sequences side by side, since the 1st volume; but it was rather difficult to find the correct synopsis for more than a few stories whose English names were very different from their English-translated names on the web page.

Who is the man on the left? Where did I see him in the 1980 series? :d oh: I remember the man in the middle from the Inca story, and obviously the man on the right is well known. ;)

This is Magoo:

As seen in 1980s' FRANKEN, in which he play's Shib's papa. It is often frustrating to see these actors, knowing that they must have names, but having no clue as to what they are. :D

The character actually does have a name? Is that Magoo really official? I thought he must have been just an anonymous "un-named" character actor.

And to think I had assumed that the only members of the Star System omitted from the chapter in the book The Art of Osamu Tezuka were Duke Deralomon and Baron Nylon.

Reread my 1st post; I note the # & title of the story in BJ manga, give the link to the official page, etc. edit: in the VERTICAL edition, the story is called AVATAR.

Here is Magoo's portrait from volume #17:

Another story in v17, titled Money! Money! Money! (#144, by my old #s, but #145 on line) has Tenma & Uran as father & daughter. Uran is 'Kasumi ', but when angered, Tenma calls her 'Uran' but then corrects himself. :hyo:

I didn't mean to appear naive Jeffbert. I don't have Blackjack number 17 unfortunately.

I knew you were sure of your information though. I was just amazed to hear about this Tezuka character I hadn't heard of by name before.

And thank you for your reply Tetsuwan Atom. I'm very curious to find out more about the other characters who were not mentioned in that book.

Oh, I am sorry if I snapped at you.  I have been a bit tense lately because of 4 or 5 threads I posted that had 20 or more views, but no responses.

BTW, I have two TEZUKA CHARACTER GUIDES (in Japanese) that detail a few actors whose names I had not known before. I assume there are more than two volumes, though.

No offence taken Jeffbert. :)

Are these guides to be found at TIE? I haven't been visiting there for a long time.
