Actually, I like the flavor, etc. but I find them frustrating to eat. You know, crunch, crack, crumble and then I wonder why I even bothered. . .
BUT
There is one taco . . . and my brother Rick agrees with me . . . ONE TACO that is in a class by itself. Crunchy at the outer edges, but soft where all the gooey, [deliciously] greasy meaty/cheesey stuff is. Topped with ever-so-finely slice ice cold and crunchy lettuce and some chopped tomatoes.
OMG I wish I had one now!!! But, alas, it's been at LEAST 30 years. It's none other than humble "Jack in the Box." I swear to God, those things were so addictive you couldn't stop eating them.
We never had many JITB's out here (we frequented the one in New Paltz, NY - the building is STILL THERE, but not the tacos!). I believe they still exist, but I don't know if they still serve tacos, and if they are still made the same way. The beef filling was so smooth and tender it was like a pate.
I miss those dog-gone things to this very day and sincerely hope that before I die, I get to have one again. Hey! I never thought I'd see Astro Boy again, and sure enough, I have - THANK YOU TODD FERSON, YOU'RE MY HERO!!
But seriously, if any of you live near a Jack in the Box, let me know if they still serve them, and what you think!
Also I've always wanted to try a fish taco - they look darned tasty!
