Fred Ladd's imports

Today being 4/1, ADULT SWIM played a joke on us by airing programs other than those in the schedule. Among these was one GIGANTOR episode. I was surprised to see Japanese signs in several scenes, & wondered who had imported it. Checking Fred Ladd's book, I noted that he had done it, at about the same time as ASTROBOY, which we know Ladd imported before G., & unless I missed something, had been thoroughly purged of Japanese text. :p :o hmy:

Why the inconsistency?

Well NBC asked Mushi to make all text in English and that agreement was back in episode 9 where with Gigantor it wasn't a westernized show at all in fact he coudn't get the first 26 episodes not because TMS din't think they weren't good enough like they sad first but later confirmed that tetsujin 28/Gigantor was actually a wapon designed to fight against the USA.

That was in the first 26 episodes so there was now way they could sell those to to them the begging of with is Gigantor is actually episode 27 and as to be expected started without any sign of a real begging the just made some stuff up with that in mind you could imagine that there would be Japanese text now and then.

If it would have been Mushi they might have made the text english to begin with but TMS had never considerd the possibility of selling there stuff internationally at this point.

they also where like WTF do we do now those Americans are trying to buy a Cartoon of us where America get's actually attacked  .

I was unaware of the anti-USA content in the 1st 26 eps of T28; Fred Ladd said they were excluded because the animation was so crude that the makers were embarrassed to export it, but MIGHTY ATOM's 1st season was also lacking fluidity.

About the texts, I do not recall reading about where or when there was any agreement between NBC & Mushi to use only English text. You say episode 9 began this policy; I will check my captured frames to see if this hold true. But, there are numerous Japanese signs & such in MIGHTY ATOM, though I would not say many. I cannot think of any that survived the America editors, though there may be a few.
