I know of a mobile phone bill of 30.000 euros, and that wasn't a joke The person had what is called a roaming, that is the phone dynamically connects and reconnects to the nearest station without bothering the user with broken calls. Problem is that the person lived right at the border, so the nearest station was at the other side of the border. Because the subscription covered only the national calls, the person ended up calling friends with international calls, not covered by the subscription, and therefore with cosmic billing hmy:

I live near Niagara Falls, N.Y. and if I'm there my phone sometimes connects to Canadian cell towers.
