Hi everyone,

AprilSeven here, reporting in from about 65 miles north of New York City, and there is not a flashlight, D-size battery, jug of water or loaf of bread to be found in any store! Also the gas stations are swamped with folks filling up their cars before this hits.

After so many roads were washed out last year with Hurricane Irene, a LOT of businesses and schools are not moving until this blows through. I just learned our office might be closed for both Monday and Tuesday - so I'll be checking in all day and finally have a chance to catch up (unless I loose Internet access)

I hope all our other members in the affected region come through this safely. I have a feeling Jeffbert might be in the area the eye will pass over, and Astrobuddy is in NYC where people are actually being evacuated. It's also supposed to affect Buffalo, NY where Big Astro Fan lives, and then there's Dragonrider, who I forget, but I think is either in NJ or Rhode Island? STAY SAFE EVERYONE and keep us up to date with what is happening in your location!

I'm in NC, so "FrankenStorm" has already passed me by. I live in a region where we were affected very little by it. It's still a bit windy, though, and MAN, is it cold!

I live in Ohio, and we are getting rain and wind for the past few days. I dunno what we're gonna do about Halloween. OHHH IT'S NOT FAIR! I WORKED HARD ON MY SAILOR MOON COSTUME AND NOW I MIGHT NOT BE ABLE TO USE IT! IT'S NOT FAIR IT'S NOT FAIR IT'S NOT FAIR!

I actually have 10 fresh brand new D-cells, about as many older ones whose best by date is 2012, 3 Coleman florescent lanterns that use 4 each, & more than a few LED flashlights, & plenty of AA & AAA cells. I even have 2 SHREK ear-clip LED lights from ALPHABITS or some other POST cereals. I have 3 gallon jugs frozen solid, 1 in the freezer, along with 2 bags of ice; 2 other bags in a cooler out in the garage, with the other 2 frozen gallons. I was rotating these from the cooler to the freezer since Saturday, when I went to Walmart. At that time, the ice bags in the freezer were down to only about 16 or so, in a freezer that should have held hundreds, no D-cell anywhere, only miners' light LEDs, though plenty of AA & AAAs were available.

So, anyway, I fully expected the storm would still be upon us until Thursday, but it is all but gone. Murphy's Law in full force. Not that I am complaining; but I made extensive preparations, & then, awakening this morning to find the storm gone.

I hope you who also live on the East coast have fared as well as I have.

Yesterday I was watching horror films on my DVR all day, & today, finished EARTH VS. THE FLYING SAUCERS in my PIP while making the finishing posts to the 02 Mexico adventure thread.

ASTROBUDDY here and I have been lucky. While my section of New York is okay, some of my friends are currently without power! My wife and I are especially worried about a co-worker and friend of ours who lives in the Breezy Point section of the Rockaways, which was hit hard by Sandy, (Ironic! Such a pretty name for so deadly a force of nature!) because we as yet have not been able to hear from her.

Glad to hear you're all right Jeffbert! Count yourself lucky! Hope you are too, AprilSeven! And any one else on this site who was in the region of these horrific weather systems! Just watching some of the horror stories showing on the news about "Sandy's victims" makes me want to count my blessings!

Glad we can take respite from these tragedies with a good old episode of "Astro Boy"! Whether you watch "classic Astro Boy" or "1980s Astroboy" or just read one of Astro Boy's manga adventures, he is "our hero, Astro Boy!"

We just got lots of rain here. Some places North of here had lots of flooding. But all in all we're ok here.

I'm glad to hear you didn't need the extra preparation, Jeffbert - I could probably sell each of those D-cell batteries for $10 each right now!! Some areas up here never lost power, but we've been out since last night about 9:30, and have been told it could be 11 days before we're restored. The worst part is that we don't have water for washing/drinking/toilets. We've got 40 "flushin' jugs" filled (and neighbors all around have swimming pools for refilling), but it still a humbling experience (compared to folks in lower NYC, the Jersey shore and Long Island, we made out great (not much rain but a LOT of wind - trees/branches down all over the place)

Astrobuddy I'll keep your friends safety in my prayers - I heard about a horrible fire that destroyed a bunch of homes (in addition to incredible flooding). My brother lives right above the Hudson (in Cornwall, part of the Hudson Highlands), and he says a whole bunch of boats from NYC (including the Circle Line ship) are up here near Newburgh until the storm surges subside. We haven't heard from Dragonrider - hope he's okay!!

And hey, at least it wasn't SNOW! We're running our generator in shifts, so it's almost time to shut down for the night - be safe out there!!!

Great to hear you are relatively okay! And thank you for your kind thoughts and words. So I hope you can still watch a favorite Astro Boy episode and think of "Astro" after that first time of having dinner with his father! (As Arsenio Hall used to say,"Hmm!")

Huh.. This is not fun... Glad you seem to be in good spirits anyway, and that others in the area are okay too!
