Favorite version of A CHRISTMAS CAROL

I have seen a few, I guess, but the one that I remember is MR. MAGOO'S CHRISTMAS CAROL. The Ghost of Xmas yet to come was just so cool. I vividly recall his bony finger pointing to Scrooge's grave, as though he were commanding Scrooge to fall into it.

There is a Rod Serling version, called CAROL FOR ANOTHER CHRISTMAS, but I have yet to watch it. I am saving it for the next time my brother visits. I believe it is set in the then present (early 1960s), & is political. It was on TCM a few days ago. I expect it will displace the Magoo version at the top of my list
:p

Nooooo . . . it's gotta be that version from the early 50's with Alistair Sim - he's got a creepy/ornery edge that makes him into a perfect Scrooge. And it's in black and white, which gives the whole film a haunting/haunted quality. I especially enjoy how Scrooge goes completely daff at the end.

As extreme as it is . . . there is something strangely believable about the whole thing.

But I do remember Mr. Magoo's C.C. . . . he was a very lovable character, and I used to watch his cartoons. Disturbing to think I'm now rather close to his apparent age (and quality of eyesight!) :p

Heh, I wonder how bad my eyes will be by the time I'm that old... I'm 19, and I'm already horribly near-sighted. Curse my myopia...!

My mom loves this one black-and-white version of the story, but she hasn't been able to find it...

The Mr. Magoo one came on Saturday, on NBC. I didn't watch it, though.

Even though we have the DVD (and for two years now, to boot!), I still have yet to see the Disney version, with Jim Carey. /slowpoke

I don't know if I have a favorite, but I have watched The Muppet Christmas Carol. Watched it as a kid and during Christmas day this year. It's the story you know, but with Muppet humor.

Also jeffbert, my parents watched Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol this year (I watched part of it). My parents were saddened that I had no idea who Mr. Magoo was. :p

Mr. Magoo is a nearly blind old man whose poor eyesight is the cause of comedy. BTW, on the DVD/Netflix streaming of this title, Magoo also does Rip Van Winkle after it.

I like to watch parodies of A Christmas Carol, the funniest ones for me being the Beavis and ButtHead version, and the Animaniacs version. Our school did a musical production of a Christmas Carol this year, I was in it. I loved that version the most.
