Kansai Club is proud to announce the title of the first book that we will be publishing in English, Osamu Tezuka’s “The Crater.” We would like to bring the joy of owning one of Osamu Tezuka’s most charming and powerful collections of short stories to American Tezuka aficionados and collectors of classic comics alike. Of the numerous short story collections created by the late and great “Godfather of Japanese Comics,” “The Crater” stands out as the perfect blend of mystery, suspense, horror, fantasy and comedy. This is the first time that one of Tezuka-sensei’s short story collections will be published in English.

“The Crater” first appeared in Japan’s “Weekly Shonen Champion” and ran from August 10, 1969 to April 1, 1970. It has since been reprinted in Japanese on numerous occasions, but this is the first time that “The Crater” will be published in English. Kansai Club will be publishing a SINGLE EDITION of this amazing book which will include all 18 short stories from the original publication. We are ONLY printing 2,000 copies of this book and each book will be individually numbered out of 2,000. The books will be printed in a large Hardcover format (7 x 10 inches), will include 3 different 7 x 10 in art prints inspired by content from “The Crater”, and will be encompassed in a high-quality colored slipcase. The MSRP for the book is set at $34.95.

Kansai Club is a tiny publishing company with only two (unpaid) employees and an office which doubles as a living room in the President of Kansai Club’s house. Our single, Limited Edition printing of “The Crater” will not be sold through traditional channels. This means that you will not be able to go to Amazon, Barnes and Nobles or your local comic book store to purchase this book. We will be running a campaign on Kickstarter, where the books will be available for pre-order along with a number of other goodies and Kickstarter exclusives. Any books not sold through Kickstarter will be available for purchase at Kansai Club’s booth at Florida Supercon on July 5, 2013. To learn more about Florida Supercon, or to purchase tickets, please visit the website at http://floridasupercon.com/.

Wow that convention will be in my neck of the woods (Miami is about 35 miles from my house)! Too bad it's mostly Mavel,DC,etc type comics... hope some Tezuka related stuff will be there.

I hope they will publish the books printed Right to Left (spine on the right) like in Japanese. It's better for people to have to use their BRAINS then to distort the original artwork by printing it MIRROR IMAGED!!!!!! (A POX on Dark Horse!!!)

I thought that kickstarter didn't actually bill your account (they are tied in with amazon) UNLESS the goal was met. It appeared to want to bill my credit card right away. What's going on? I was thinking of the $35 level on this but don't want to drop the money into a black hole if it dries up.

The "goal" is already met. They intentionally set a very low goal because they'll be shipping the books no matter what (but low sales would mean they wouldn't make future books and already go out of business).

Basically, the Kickstarter is more like a store to get this very limited edition book. Only about 1,800 copies left.

I wasn't sold on it until I went to the Kickstarter page itself, then I thought, 'Eh, why not? It'll be cool to have.'

Everyone not already aware of it should also definitely check out http://www.animesols.com where Tezuka anime DVD sets can be pledged in the same way as a Kickstarter (Black Jack, TV Specials, and Blue Blink). It's an exciting industry first and we're blessed that Tezuka Productions is part of it.

I will probably pledge for the three special set. I'm waiting to see what's going to be on the second BlackJack set to make a choice between the two on that. Wish I had enough money to get everything, but with two kids in college .....

I'm broke, so I couldn't purchase anything or support a cause if I wanted to. :( (And believe me, there are some things that I'd definitely support, if given the opportunity.)
