I was quite surprised to learn of an even worse terrorist plot than the marathon one of the past week, but the news today revealed one. As I recall two men were arrested and charged with plotting to destroy a RR bridge on a line between the USA & Canada, I believe the idea was to blow the bridge as a train carrying passengers between NY NY & some Canadian city was passing over it.

I do not believe trains are nearly as popular as they once were, but I envisioned anywhere from dozens to hundreds of casualties. The RCMP assured the news viewers that there was never any danger of the thread being put into execution, as both it & the FBI had had the terrorists under observation for quite a few months. I assume they waited only long enough to have sufficient evidence against the plotters.

I heard about that too.

I'm glad they stopped that plot . . . but they don't catch every event, because the FBI spoke with the older brother of the two Boston terrorists FIVE TIMES and somehow he slipped through and carried out his plan.

Seriously? How is that even possible? It really does bring up the question of just how complacent, vs how paranoid we should be into question.

Having lived 2 blocks from a major train station for 3 years in Poughkeepsie, NY and 10 years previous in Albany, NY, that Amtrak line is a major line running from manhattan to Canada and is always packed full of students, business persons, and leisure travelers. It would have been awful.Trains are very popular as they are cleaner and quicker than riding greyhound or another bus company.

I am loosing hope for the human race, or at least a good part of it.
