Is it just me, or do I see someone's silhouette inside the outline of the stadium?

Anyway, it would be nice if I'm still healthy enough then to think of being there in person (but I hate to think of the expense!)
Suddenly, I have a few FF ideas too! :astro:

The Japanese put on a fantastic Olympics in 1964, one of the best remembered. Let's see them outdo it!

Well that's about seven years away from today. Right now we have a small robot up in the ISS. Sometimes it seems like progress in technology, especially when computers are concerned advances along an exponential curve.

So since seeing the announcement a few days ago I've been having the same repeated 'fiction?' playing in my mind:
The Olympic stadium crowd is cheering as the runner bearing the torch enters the stadium. The Olympic flame has been erected atop a huge torch standing in one corner of the stadium about 3/4 of the way from the ground to the domed roof with no apparent way for the torch bearer to access it to light it.

A small figure enters the stadium from the other side and is handed the torch by the runner, this is the last relay hand off of the Olympic torch before the flame is lit inside the stadium. The new torch bearer flies up to the top of the huge torch, hovers there, and lights the Olympic flame to signal the start of the games. This behind a backdrop of a 57 year old anime tune playing to the crowd.

You know, they could 'Fake' this Broadway or Hollywood style, or technology could catch up. But either way, wouldn't THAT be just so cool!

I just found out that in the movie, Akira, the Neo-Tokyo Olympics are held in 2020. Akira came out in 1988.

The writers of Akira called it 25 years ago.

Seriously though, I congratulate Tokyo on getting the Olympics again. I expect nothing less then great things to come from this Olympics.

Hey Dan remember this?

Seemed appropriate for this thread.

BTW:
I watched the episode "The Robot Olympics" from the 60's. I'm sure that Tokyo having the '64 Olympics was the inspiration for that episode. And Ladd must have known this since he kept the location in Tokyo (Though out most of the ELV Ladd kept the fact that Astro Boy was made in Japan a secret, and no actual location for the setting was really given. AprilSeven and myself both imagined the IOS as being in NYC or Washington DC.)

Also noticed that Cannon / Colt was the head chairman for the Olympics. (Someone tried to bribe him and then pulled out a gun when that failed, Cannon told him to "take a close look at my nose!" The buy backed off!)

There is also a link from that site to an article about a Japanese proposal for "hide and seek" becoming an Olympic sport! I can picture Uran and Pinoco vs Atom and Atlas!
