Well that's about seven years away from today. Right now we have a small robot up in the ISS. Sometimes it seems like progress in technology, especially when computers are concerned advances along an exponential curve.
So since seeing the announcement a few days ago I've been having the same repeated 'fiction?' playing in my mind:
The Olympic stadium crowd is cheering as the runner bearing the torch enters the stadium. The Olympic flame has been erected atop a huge torch standing in one corner of the stadium about 3/4 of the way from the ground to the domed roof with no apparent way for the torch bearer to access it to light it.
A small figure enters the stadium from the other side and is handed the torch by the runner, this is the last relay hand off of the Olympic torch before the flame is lit inside the stadium. The new torch bearer flies up to the top of the huge torch, hovers there, and lights the Olympic flame to signal the start of the games. This behind a backdrop of a 57 year old anime tune playing to the crowd.
You know, they could 'Fake' this Broadway or Hollywood style, or technology could catch up. But either way, wouldn't THAT be just so cool!
