MARVEL'S AGENTS OF SHIELD

Postby jeffbert » 11 years ago

I just happened to see an ad for this show just a day before its premiere. I usually stay away from programs on the broadcast networks, with few exceptions.

Anyway. if anyone wants to discuss this show, please do.

My brother used to watch this show on abc, but then he stopped. (Guess he lost interest.)

Funny that you created this thread when the show was about to start. I wasn't really watching it though. I was busy doing my algebra homework at the time.

I would have failed algebra if not for partial credit; my most frequent error was with the sign +/- of the answer.

I think they should let students who are slow at math (Like me for ex.) just slide by and let them graduate. I mean, at least we try our best. (I really try the best I can and do my homework and look over notes on algebra all the time.) But apparently, if I don't pass, I can't get the credit, so I have to take algebra during the summer in summer school.

I did not even take algebra until college. So, what aspect of it do you find most difficult?

Well, this may seem funny (and a bit embarrasing. :blush :) , but.... All of it. The whole darn thing is hard for me. I'm just not that good at math. As soon as I learn something, I forget about it a day later. I guess I'm a slow learner or something. You know what I mean?

Yes, I do; I took Calc I in the Fall, & by the time the so-called Spring semester started, I had forgotten too much.

There are ways of improving memory; things like [cannot recall the word] but "BAD BOYS RAPED OUR YOUNG GIRLS--" & I will omit the rest, but it means BLACK, BROWN, RED, ORANGE, YELLOW GREEN" which are the 1st 6 of 10 colors in a coded system used in electronics, in which the colors stand for numbers 0-9 respectively. Anyway, they make it seem easy, but you make up a story using words that start with the same letter as the thing to remember. :p

Wow. I just read this and said: What the Freak!? What a strange way to remember something like that. I think I know what you're talking about Jeffbert. I've seen something like this on this show called Brain Games before. This guy remembers numbers easily by making them into pictures in his head. (Yes, it was in Brain Games.) It can also be easy by making them into stories. (Though, that would be kinda hard for math.)

Even though, sometimes they can have strange meanings to them, it can be useful and easy to remember! Thanks for the tips! :) !

Those people are using the method of memory palace. One of the key is that the weirdest the image is, the easier it is to remember it. Intuitively it is obvious: you remember more easily weird things than common ones ;)

It probably is useless for algebra though, as there is not much to learn, more to understand. There is always an underlying logic, but maybe you don't see it, and your teachers might be too directed into rot learning (which is a mess for topics such as this one).
The real sign that someone has become a fanatic is that he completely loses his sense of humor about some important facet of his life. When humor goes, it means he's lost his perspective.

I too, watch Brain Games; The History channel has a similar program, & it includes the History of those things. Both are good shows; I am interested in psychological things such as these.

On topic: there will be a new episode 2/4:

T.R.A.C.K.S.
NEW
S01, E13
