Kokoro in Star Trek?

I just watched an episode of Star Trek TOS, "The Ultimate Computer" in which a new super computer took control of the Enterprise. What made this computer different was that the inventor has used human engrams in designing the logic circuits of the machine. The computer could 'think' like a human, and had emotions. In other words, "Kokoro".

Star Trek TOS aired between 1966-1969. I wonder if D. C. Fontana was familiar with Tezuka and Astro Boy?

One of my favorite episodes; hooray for BLACULA! William Marshall has such a distinctive voice! I do not know about actual 'heart' in the M5 computer, or the robot from SATURN V that had similar human traits that made it lust for FF's character. For that matter, what do we really mean by kokoro? I think the 2003 series uses free will as its primary meaning, though that may be only a part of it.

As far as the M5 goes, it seems odd that it failed to understand the concept of war games, which should have been established with no room for doubt long before giving it control of a starship. It having a death ray at just the point where it could be disconnected-- that is as strange as THE COLOSSUS OF NEW YORK having death ray eyes, esp. when he was a great humanitarian before being made a cyborg!
