During the Skype meeting today, someone asked me what my previous avatar was since I brought up that I had changed my avatar once. My current avatar is my second one. This one was the first one I used from March 2011 (when I joined) to August 2011:



I found that avatar when searching through this thread. I believe it's from the 9th episode of the 1980s series, though I don't remember at the moment.

My current avatar is from the final episode of the 1960s series. I've used it since August 2011. I made a screenshot of it whenever the episode was still available legally on YouTube, mainly because I liked Atom's expression and thought it would make a good avatar. Although I don't mind my first avatar, I feel like my second one is a bit better.

So how did you get your avatar? What avatars have you used in the past?

It's the boxset back cover detail for the 1960s Astro Boy series through Right Stuff.

The current one I have now is my favorite minor character from the series, Bem that Tetsuwan Penguin made since I don't know how to make gifs.

Oh yes, I do remember this avatar of yours, now, Shiyonasan! I couldn't remember what it was this afternoon.

My current avatar is the only one I've ever had. I had said I wanted a wink and Strange Wings made it for me.

I've had a few different ones since I joined. My first was clipped from an image of Astro used on the right stuff boxed set. I then made a few 'floating' images with the gimp from various posters done by Tokyo Denki University. My current one was part of an image that Astro Forever made for the photoshop contest thread. That one was from the 1980 series, and she colored Atoms hair grey. I sorta identified with that image and asked her if she could put a pair of eyeglasses on him.

The avatar I'm using on FanFiction.net was done for me by April7, and is literally "Tetsuwan Penguin", a rendition of 'Tux' the Linux Penguin with Astro hair spikes, red feet, and a green belt.

BTW it was a bit of a challenge to make that Avatar for Earthshine due to the file size limit. I had to play with settings in image compression, frame rate, and number of pixels. The first effort was a bit choppy until I figured out that the Gimp was throwing in a few invisible layers and I finally figured out how to remove them.

I was looking at the thread in the link you posted. Now this image is interesting ...

It looks like the one in the manga story "The Angel of Vietnam" where Atom smashes into a B52 bomber and scares the crew into bailing out and aborting their bombing run.

I thought that I'd stick with my avatar from the last episode of the 1963 Astro Boy series for many years to come, but it appears I'm wrong. Here's that avatar:

And now for my current one; I discovered the image below and immediately liked it, so I thought about creating an avatar of Atom from it. I was going to have a rotating avatar, alternating between my current avatar and Uran from this image, but I found out that Vbulletin does not support rotating avatars.

So, I'll give this avatar a go, and see how much I like it in the coming days.

If by rotating avatar you mean one that changes each time someone accesses it then I guess so. However you could create a motion gif with an insanely long frame duration to swap though a series of images on your avatar.

I'm talking about the kind that changes your avatar every time you refresh the page. Sites like SignAvatar do that sort of thing.

I thought about doing a gif like that, but I'd rather stick to sites like SignAvatar. Besides, I actually don't know how to create gifs.

EDIT: One thing I'm noticing that I don't like about my avatar is the background color. I'd rather it have a transparent background like Tetsuwan Penguin's avatar, or a more subdued color that's not hard on the eyes, such as a normal blue or green color. Can anyone change the background color for me?

Thanks a bunch, EyeOdyssey! I added a border around it because the image looked really weird being cut off at the spikes.

Thanks anyway! The white background doesn't look too bad either (it certainly looks better than yellow-green), but I'd rather have a more subdued color.
