I know, but I'm just a fussy person lol XD I'm the sort who likes things in a particular way and if their not I always point them out.

I respectfully disagree. The rule at American comic book publisher Gold Key was to never show violence that could be imitated by children. Thus, the coyote exploding a ton of TNT was fine, but Donald Duck with a handgun never was.

There's nothing wrong with slapstick comedy. I love it. But yes, at the same time we desensitize children -- and adults. I frankly was a little worried over all the violence in the 1980s Astro, permissable because we we "only" killing robots who in every respect looked and acted human.

It seemed contrary to the unspoken race message built into the show. It argued for equal rights for a "lesser" class, but still victimized that class freely whenever dramatic violence was called for.

I meant "clean" with respect to violence that can't be, such as the example given by jeffbert. Of course, I have no problem with slapstick comedy either

I frankly was a little worried over all the violence in the 1980s Astro, permissable because we we "only" killing robots who in every respect looked and acted human.

When you compare the 1980 anime to recent anime's (When They Cry Higurashi, Elfen Lied) the violence in Astro Boy isn't that bad. Although some violence did feel unnecessary.

Pluto's death made sense (ya know bad guy turns good, ends up dying trying to protect Astro from the giant robot), but other characters death's like Atlas, Denku and Nuka were unexpected, if not harsh.

However in their own way they did teach life lessons. I think with Denku's death it was showing what happens if you hang out with the wrong crowd. Then the episode on the moon with the diamonds, where the man (Boon, I think) stays while the others escape, it shows being greedy gets you no where, or maybe risking your life for diamonds or gold or money isn't worth it.

What I like about that anime is it doesn't always look at life with a sugar-coating. There are happy endings and then there are sad endings, just as there is in life with highs and lows. If you remove the bad from the good, then the picture is being painting for children of the world isn't an honest one.

Though what's really important is moral values, teaching lessons that are gonna help you make the right choices. It's really not about the violence...but it does make it interesting!

But I agree on the Donald Duck holding a gun thing, it's best to avoid violence that kids can copy off screen.
