Web comics

Postby Black Rabbit » 15 years ago

Does anyone know how to make a web comic? I'm not very good at making stuff like this... But I would like to try. I am using smackjeeves, but I don't really even know how to use it. My, er, user name is *cough* Booger123.*cough*oh, did I say that? Er, so would anyone help me? =[ I was planning on uploading my new comic there. (Actually, the style is Anime, like big eyes. =3)

Smackjeeves has changed their layout since the last time I've had to make a webcomic, so it took me a bit of clicking around to find this...

1) On the toolbar running under the search bar and site header, click on "Create". You get taken to Site Management, and there should be a button at the top of that module with "Create New Webcomic".
2) From there, you get the new comic entry form. There's an area for the site title, an area for the domain name, and I'll just explain that below:
------2a) That's part of the link for your comic (i.e. "http://comic.smackjeeves.com", so I recommend choosing something simple. For "Quinn", I just used "quinn" because that's pretty explanatory. But when I had big titles like "Skipper The Robot Kid", I abbreviated it to "strk".
------2b) The last time I tried, the only way you could get "thewebcomic.com" as a suffix was if you had a paid account, which really isn't worth it.
3) Everything is pretty straight-forward on there, but here's a few things:
------3a) If you mark the comic as "mature", people can't see anything on the comic profile, just censored thumbnails. I know you probably won't need this on, but it's good saying that a warning in the description is much more effective than turning this on.
------3b) Seeking Co-Authors means that people can send requests to join as staff on your comic, with the option to turn down requests.
------3c) All the little things under "Settings" can be left alone, but Number of Displayed News Posts is how many of your news entries appear on the front page, along with an archive link. I usually set mine to 5 to avoid making the page really long.
4) The category thing is pretty self-explanatory. When you're done, hit "Submit", and it'll let you know if the domain name you want is taken. If it doesn't, your comic now exists!
