Thanks for sharing. I had never seen anything like this before, I knew absolutely nothing about this kind of software! :)

I must say it is impressive. The cell-shading version even gave me some feelings of seeing a 80s episode. With a motion tracker device it could be possible to make decent fan-made movies :D

Personally I knew about that software, but I was never able to drop a sphere in a scene despite 3 attempts over several years :eek:

Hmm...maybe I should make an individual post about Blender that is more informative than the bits and pieces of information I've written here?

@ Fafner : Thank you for your interest and comments. :) I'm really glad to hear you liked the cell shading effect...that's quite a compliment actually. I'm not sure I know what you mean by motion tracking device, but I do plan on making some animated sequences, and perhaps an animated short or two in the near future, but I'm pacing myself. If you haven't tried Blender recently, you really should because it has been revised to be more appealing to new users.

From the posts here, it seems that some members are interested. I'm afraid this would be much too difficult for me personally, though. I play a little bit with Photoshop, but even then, if a pro was watching me working with it, he'd probably be discouraged at how I struggle to do some very basic things. :lol:

@ Astro Forever: Heyas. No worries. You could do it. With a bit of practice, patience, and passion, pretty much anything is possible. Of course, I didn't start off with anything too ambitious right away while I was first learning 3D and I think that it is good advice for anyone to follow. What I was initially talking about was an informal FAQ about the software moreso than a tutorial on how to use it, but that could be arranged as well if anyone is really interested. And, I would do my best make it as beginner friendly as well :)

@ Mizrael : Hi Mizrael. I'm sorry if I offended you. That wasn't my intention. I didn't assume you wanted the model for Gary's Mod or YouTube, I just didn't rule out the possibility that you wouldn't give it to someone else. Hypothetically speaking, if you did, there is no guarantee that the person or people you might give it to wouldn't do the same until eventually it ended up in an offensive location including being sold online. My name is attached to the model, and I don't want anything negative or offensive tied to it that would be interpreted as disrespectful by the copyright holders, Tezuka Productions. If you need a model, maybe you should have a look at editing one from daz studio, or miku miku dance. Otherwise stay tuned to this thread, because I may make a beginner friendly tutorial for making a 3D model in Blender, that is, if enough people are interested.

In fact I meant motion capture. With a Kinect it should be accessible to the average user.

My last attempt was after the revision, and the tutorials I found so far didn't really help. I would definitely "attend" to a Blender tutorial aimed at dummies :D Can't wait to drop my first sphere in a scene :cool:

Heya Fafner, I'm open the idea of using motion capture, but I don't think I would use it exclusively. If I used mocap data, I would probably edit it manually by hand to give it a more fluid feel, as well as integrate it with hand made animation. As far as using a kinect with Blender, I've seen some examples of people using it to control objects via a 'virtual marionette puppet' effect, but I'm not sure how a kinect would work with a mocap set up. If it could work it would be cool because it would be the cheapest and most accessible mocap solution I've ever heard of. If you come across any videos or resources, please keep me in mind :)

As far as your sphere is concerned, my philosophy is that one should start modestly, and start at the beginning...but, that won't answer your question in this case will it? ;) So, to drop a sphere into a scene in Blender, here's what you do.

1. Open Blender
2. Select the default cube by right clicking on it, and press the delete key to delete it
3. Go to the add menu at the top left corner of the screen and choose add > mesh > UV sphere. And for extra credit:
4. Open your hand and point your palm toward your face.
5. Reach behind your ear, and continue moving your hand until your palm is at the back of your neck.
6. Move your hand down slightly, and gently pat yourself on the back until you feel an overwhelming sense of accomplishment, and satisfaction.
7. wash, rinse, repeat. :w00t:

I'm just kidding about the last part of course. I'm just trying to make you guys laugh by adding a little humor to lighten the mood. I should stop joking like this though because some people may not be able to tell when I'm joking and when I'm serious. Man this reply is long. Sorry if this is boring the heck outta you guys, :/
