So many boxes open up that an endless torrent of social, economic and political upheavals would result. With Fear being the domineering factor of mankind's existence , I can see it happening and at a quick pace much like it was in the first few pages of Astroboy V.1. Look at how we have advanced computers so far in such a small range of time. 70 years ago ,they were occupying entire rooms and now are in your pocket ,at your desk and or in your briefcase. Most of these can do roughly the same things and ,OS aside, have an international universal way of doing things.
Once a Prometheus is born , as he or she probably is right now or soon, they will bring the fires that will bring about AI advancement to levels we barely can comprehend today .
Emotion in robots? Emotions can either boost or halt an individual and so would a robot . Terminators had no emotion to speak of and were killing machines so without them, what would be wrong if they have no emotions to speak of? Mind you that morality is powered and enhanced by emotion so without it , the robots would blindly do things and enforce the law without a single tinge of empathy. Sure there would be robots that would fight back , but look at the minorities of today and at the Civil Rights movement. If they have human nature , than they'll be exactly or simliar to us and be stuck to the same irrationalities we face. That or they'll be all Spocks......
How about we work our own problems out as a species before we try anything this stupid . Next thing we need is a Caesar scenario to compound our species' collective stupidity and arrogance. And with fear... I can't envision robots today ,but ones like Astro... if they acted too human then I'll just feel slightly intimidated of their abilities.
Kinda like flying cars, jet packs or exo suits... work the kinks out and advance research on them until it gets somewhat safe to use/interact with.
But basically... cripple the machines with our thought process ,everything that makes us us. That would solve half the problems.
I agree. Sometimes humans have a habit of rushing things a bit too much - for example, introducing cane toads to Australia to keep the pests away, but they end up being the pest themselves, or introducing rabbits here as something for people to shoot at, but they end up multiplying out of control...:
