Ginger Hair, a curse or gift?

Postby Alittleacorn » 14 years ago

I was on AOL today and I came across this article a man posted called 'Ginger whinge - and why I'm glad my son's not a red head' In it he openly talks about how he was bullied at school and how he was secretly pleased his son didn't get his hair.

I'm ginger and I've never once hated the color of my hair. Sure I got bullied for it but it never made me think 'gawd I wish I could dye it right about now' if anything I just hated the frizziness of it, which would happen every time I brushed it (which has lead me to only brush it when I wash it every couple days-wait why I am I babbling about my grooming lifestyle!? :d oh :)

I guess I want to know what people think of ginger hair. Because honestly I've grown up seeing it no different from blondes or brunettes and I'm happy the way it is. o_O And seeing both sides argue over it to me sounds childish.

I have black hair

Hair colour is not because of (and neither a sign of) intelligence, but rather because of pigmentationof hair follicles.

And thus I believe that having a certain colour of hair is neither a "curse" or a "gift". It just means you're human.

I've never understood why children would be made fun of because they had red hair. In fact I had never realized it could happen until I became an adult, because I have never witnessed it. I personally love the originality of this hair color. :) I can understand that children, in general, do not like to look too different, but there are so many women who are dyeing their hair to that color even though it's not their own that I would think that for many it is a desirable color. :)

Alittleacorn, I know I have said it in the past, but I really do like your hair as it is. :D

Fortunately, there wasn't any bullying on red-haired people when I was in grade school. In fact, I was friends with a red-head who was actually popular back in high school.

When I found out that kids were getting bullied for having red hair, I thought (and still think) that that is incredibly stupid. If God gave you that hair color, and you were born with it, what can you do? Sure, you can dye it, but that's not your natural hair color.

Apples and oranges is what I say. It doesn't matter if your hair color is black, brown, blonde, red, or fuchsia. We are all human regardless of what our hair color is.

An episode of SOUTH PARK focused not on one kid's dislike of red hair, but the large amounts of freckles on the faces of red-haired people. Not only that, but these people were depicted as being rather ugly because of all those freckles. :D My brother-in-law has hair that is somewhat blond but somewhat reddish. His complexion is almost pink, as though he were albino. I think he has a sickly complexion, & have known a few redheads who also seemed sickly.

Well, I'm the daughter of a redhead - actually I LOVE calling it "ginger" and you know what, I have ALWAYS been super disappointed I didn't inherit her color (although as a baby my hair was reddish).

It's all in how you take what you've been given, I guess! But it's really a blessing to be "naturally unique" from the color to the freckles. You simply don't see as many people with that color combination, so you're going stand out. Creepy people might tease you, but it's most likely because out of jealousy. Acorn are you the only member of your family with ginger hair? Here's another benefit - my mother is 85, and there's still the slightest whisper of redness to her hair (almost a champagne color) - when the gray starts to arrive, you'll still look GREAT!

Personally I used to really HATE having naturally curly hair ( and having so many women come up and pull the curls crying "this is NATURAL? You're so LUCKY!") I used to fight like mad to de-curl it, because - what's more popular is long, smooth flowing hair, no matter WHAT color, and I got tired of that, so now I'm at peace with it. Oh, yeah, and they also came out with this neat little tool called a ceramic flat iron. BYE BYE CURLZ!!

NOW Imagine Astro as a GINGER GUY!!!! C'mon Acorn, you can fix him up!!

My friend ashley has ginger and blonde in her hair, Shes so little and she gets bullied every once in a while but if they hurt her or make her cry...I'll punch them in the face and smack them a couple times. Some call me a Emo B word or other bad words because I have brown, black, red, green, blue, pink and orange in my hair and my "male friend" Hi-Hi (he he) has black and red and orange in his hair (its mostly orange) If anyone hurts him I'll hurt them too but hi hi's tailer than me and to all my other friends Love ya!

Already photoshopped that, >.> Ghost would know that.

And my mom is a redhead, so are most of her sisters and a few cousins. My brother was ginger but he's gone more dark brown now growing up while mine has changed a little too.

And curly hair is a nightmare I know, I friggin hate mine and curse anybody who dares says it's lucky, because it's not. I wish it'd go back to the way it was when I was young then I could wear it down without looking silly @_@
