Precisely the reason why I have reservations about Skype is because it is proprietary (which basically means you can't check what's happening in the software, not even in the communication stream) and prone to give out informations about you to the authorities. Authorities such as *
cough* China *
cough* with private discussions between people "on watch". Not that I would single out Skype for that, many big corporations did just that, but I wouldn't want to give them occasions to have a pick in my private life, so I don't use Skype as a regular communication medium with people I know.
The real sign that someone has become a fanatic is that he completely loses his sense of humor about some important facet of his life. When humor goes, it means he's lost his perspective.
