this is totally screwing with my head because the download i got from itunes of the 1963 theme is really different from this one...

I don't know what version of the 1963 theme you got on itunes except to say that unless it is the original version as it is heard on DVDs of the 1960s Astro Boy show it is not the original and may have used incorrect lyrics. Although there is another version which was released on records in the 1960s. But that is an alternate version and the true original with the lyrics that you will find on this website is the one which begins each episode of the series.

The end credit lyrics as they appear on the wikipedia page for Astro Boy are correct.
