Not just that, but they got divided between liking the classic Rockman, Rockman X or Zero.
The fanbase is pretty much broken, because many started to wish Zero more than the actual Rockman characters.
Rockman Zero is not a Rockman at all, he doesn't share the same creator.
But anyway, we should relax.
What we need is to hope that Atom don't get butchered anymore like what happened with the 2003 version.

here is the prob after astro's glory of the 50s to the 60s he went into hiding. astro really wasnt as popular as so in japan. japan knows the fact that astro was the first but people and especially in USA say megaman is better or more "original" than vs astro boy. plus being a character in the nintendo or video game biz gets you ALOT OF POPULARITY thus, YOUR WELL KNOW AND YOU GET ALOT OF FANS i think it all comes down to is the fact that astro boys in and out of hibration so to speak and with the after fall of the movie, its just not well advertised enough here. trust me i had fights and yelling matches with people about this. its kinda sad really

Why would you even give them the time? Honestly, it sounds a bit like the "Final Fantasy vs. Legend of Zelda" or "Pokémon vs. Digimon" debates. (The first two aren't even all that similar!) You're better off not wasting your breath.

Btw, Mega Man (Rockman) is owned by Capcom, not Nintendo. Nintendo doesn't own /every/ popular and historical franchise. Just Mario, Donkey Kong, Super Smash Bros., Kid Icarus, Metroid, Pikmin, Star Fox, Animal Crossing, Pokémon, Kirby, The Legend of Zelda, etc., etc...

its all about media and how much it can sell. in short no money means no astro boy. it all comes down to that. also popularity. its just not popular as much as it is in other countries

The problem is no popularity, but BAD IMPORT, they take out the spirit of the series to try turn into another show and even sell bad DVDs without the option for the original dub.
So, who'll like to get around a souless anime?
Atom don't got well liked, because those who imported the series wanted to change everything and ruin the concept of the series.

not to metion when the 03 reboot anime came into play the only thing i can think of and i bet my apples on it that when they add that arm cannon of his THAT my firends is when people started calling astro boy a rip off of mega man. I BLAME IT ON THE ARM CANNON. and you know what? they only did that cause im guessing the butt guns would be too offensive

Don't forget that Atom's arm jets were actually a prototype for the arm cannon.
Atom even used them for an attack long range in the 1980 series.

ah yes true! but i think when it really too a turn about astro being the mega man rip off. is really i think wat i was trying to say was, in the 03 anime i think it was much more shown off and thus people seeing how much mega man and astro were alike. not to metion during that time there was a mega man anime either during or after the run of the 03 04 astro boy

Don't forget that the dub wanted to make Atom look like a Rockman wannabe.
And that Rockman anime which was airing was not even based in the classic series, but in Rockman Exe with weird "internet battles" and the characters represented by "programs" and not robots.
But, do not give attention to these noobs.
Arm cannons are something which came from the Tetsuwan Atom series, note the robots who attempt to take out Atom in "Uran Tomboy" from the 1980 series for example.
They mostly wasted time with the awkward butt machinegun on Atom rather than giving an arm cannon back then.
The finger laser was not strong enough.
