The description says books 1 - 3 -- like all three of them are $9.50 (another reason I was skeptical)

Most places have a check box for a particular book.

Now I don't know if I can/should cancel the original order and re-order all three? Or if I just order the other two now (so instead of costing $20, it's now $60!!)

Any help would be great... :(

You are reading that wrong! It's $9.50/each volume, not all three! So if I were you, cancel the order and contact the dealer immediately and explain the error. This order should not be $60.00.

I  :astro: :)

All Three Books are on the Way to Meeeeee!

Postby AprilSeven » 12 years ago

Thanks for your ideas, feedback and support, guys -- I got a message from ebay this morning letting me know that all three books are on their way to me from Singapore and should be here in 3-4 weeks. :D

The seller reworded the listing slightly, but still doesn't actually specify which book(s) you would like to purchase -- she expects you to order "3" in the Qty. box and that's implies "all three books!"

You can email the seller though - which I did - and she (pretty sure it's a she) was very pleasant and responsive.

To buy the set is more expensive than anticipated (about $60) - but I had a $50 gift card to use, so everything came out good in the end! ;)

NOW I CAN'T WAIT!! :whistling:

I am glad it worked out and I hope you enjoy them.
Although one does have to be careful when purchasing from eBay and read through the whole ads, as I have discovered in the past. Luckily most eBay dealers are honest and understanding as long as you email them quickly. But one must still be careful. Having PayPal helps.

I ordered it!! :ninja:

Astrobuddy tipped my confidence (he's got a LOT of Astro stuff, so I trust his instincts! :p )

Thank you, Little Brown Fox for spotting this - I hadn't realized what the deal was with these books. The total purchase was just under $20 so it's not as big a risk as buying a cd box set or something.

There's actually quite a bit of AB stuff on ebay - but I'd really like some of the books Astrobuddy has collected

Maybe a collector's thread would be a good idea where we could post different items we've purchased, so others could look for/recognize them on ebay.

Okay - so just about this time next month I should be reading my new manga!

Ooh, that's agreat idea! I know that there already is a thread like that in teh archives. But it's so old, we may as well just start up a new one.

Ooooh, I wish I had a gift card handy... I honestly do not know why someone wouldn't want all three books if they were ordering them! It's not exactly like they're easy to find, especially individually!

I still feel bad about that little mess-up, though. It feels more like it was my fault, because I wasn't paying close enough attention or something...

no, nooo it's not your fault at all - the listing was very unclear (still not clear - why not say -- 3 books: $29.99 shipping: $29.99)

That's not you, LBF -- I am THRILLED you spotted it because now a few of us are going to have this.

April, what was on the CD that you mailed me to include with LBF's computer in the directory "2003 Manga"?

See Why I don't use E-Bay and PayPal?

Postby AprilSeven » 12 years ago

I can't believe my lack of luck.

I set up a PayPal account to purchase the Japanese DVD set, and that work out okay.

So I when I purchased these books, I used PayPal - or tried to. I wanted to put the charge on my credit card, but it defaulted to my checking account, so I let it go.

Last week (two weeks after I made the purchase) they told me I had "incomplete" information about my bank, and were going to not let the payment go through. Then they said they would put the charge on my credit card (which is what I wanted anyways). I thought it was strange all this was happening WEEKS after I had ordered the books.

Well, ladies and gentlemen, this morning I have a message from the seller of these !@@#$%^! books that because I never told her what book to send, she was REFUNDING MY MONEY and thereby cancelling the purchase of Book 1 -- which, of course -- IS THE MISSING BOOK!!! :p irate: :d evil:

Do you think ebay OR PayPal has any actual "customer service?"

None that I can find. I'm screwed - with no apparent recourse.

I've attempted to email the seller directly, but at this point I almost feel like maybe it's a scam, and I should cancel the whole thing.

I hope any of the rest of you who may have ordered this will have better luck, but that's why I DON'T like International orders (especially from parts of world speaking languages I am not fluent in) - AND give me the good old telephone ANYTIME - this point and click crap leaves you with no one to help - and that's just foolhardy.

:shifty: :(

For what it's worth I've had no issues buying small electronic items and parts from China. I've been doing this for a few years now, and I've never gotten burned yet. But, the guys there selling electronics seem to have SOME knowledge of English, and a higher sense of business ethics. I've never dealt with the crowd selling comic/amime/toys from that part of the world.

As far as PayPal is concerned, the link to select other means of payment is in small print and not very obvious, but it IS there! Just look over the page carefully before clicking the final send money button!

If you pay by credit card, especially with Amex you have another avenue of resource to complain with. I've sic'ed Amex on Paypal before, with good results!
